Test drive some three row SUV’s the other day

My wife drives a 2014 Buick Verano and we are looking to trade it in on a three row SUV or Crossover. We drove a Highlander, an Accent, a CX-9, and an Acadia. We liked the Acadia and the Accent the best. But what I came away with most was how great my two year old, 50,000 mile Pacifica is compared to all of them. Our van drives as good as any of them and is quicker than all but the Acadia. The interior quality was a little nicer in the SUV’s however. But overall I was really impressed how the van compared to them. I am leaning toward the Acadia and my wife seems to like the Subaru better. I think we are going to get a much better deal on the GMC though. I will post pics when we decide to pull the trigger.

It is hard to trade the Verano in though. it has been a really good car. In the five years we have owned it we haven’t had to do a single thing to it other than a battery after three years. But our three kids are getting bigger and she needs more space.

If it's the 3rd row you're after, why not buy another Pacifica?

My wife likes the Pacifica a lot. But one side of our garage is shorter than the other because of the stairway to the upstairs. So we need a second vehicle to be under 200 inches long. The Acadia is 194 inches long and the Ascent is 196 inches long. I think the Pacifica is 212.

Correction, the Pacifica is 203.6, but still too long to fit in the garage and be able to close the door.

Now to be more serious.

Do you really need the third row? Your Pacifica serves that function when needed, and the third row in your Pacifica is much roomier than the one in any of the cars you are looking at. The Honda Passport or Jeep Grand Cherokee are both nice and comfortable two row SUVs. One advantage of the JGC is that most of the controls are very similar to your Pacifica. Your dealer would probably make a heck of a deal to have you as a two vehicle customer. Another thought, three row SUVs have to compromise the second row to make room for, and access to, that third row.

If you must have the third row, I'd take a long long hard look at the new Kia Telluride. US News ranks it #1 in SUVs. And read this from Cars.com. Kia dealers are usually willing to deal, but the Telluride might be in short supply.
