ESS in rush hour traffic

I am wondering how others manage ESS in constant stop and go rush hour traffic. (Boston SE Expressway). I can't help but wonder if all that constant stop/start is good for the car. I feel like I should shut it off. What do others do in this type of driving?

I just release a little pressure on the brake pedal and it starts right up.
Not enough to let the van move, but a little.

The ESS is supposed to save fuel in the similar situation which you are describing (I presume it is meant for longer signals where you might be waiting a bit before getting the green light). If the situation is as you described - stopping for one or two seconds only, and the traffic is likely to be a prolonged or protracted, then I would simply disable the feature by pressing the ESS button. If it is only a one off situation and I don’t want the ESS to kick in, then (as described in previous post) I press the brake only very lightly that the car stops but not enough to trigger the ESS. In all other situations I let the ESS runs its full course. At least it makes me feel good that I’m not burning fuel unnecessarily.

Concur with Bond007 with shutting off the ESS during those rush-hour traffic jams or during those times when the highway gets "shut-down" because of an accident or road construction. You can always turn it back on after the tie up is behind you. Supposedly the new batteries and starters are engineered and built to handle all those extra start episodes. But why be the test guinea pig? Just shut it down.
