Since I started the thread, I thought I would give an update on my situation. I finally took it to the dealership for ESS check and also some recall work that I was notified of through the mail. They did a battery load test on both batteries (cranking battery and the smaller ESS batter). Turns out they were both a little low. They were replaced under warranty. I drove out of the dealership with the same message on the dash "ESS Unavailable. Battery charging" (or something similar). But, after a few miles, the ESS battery was fully charged and the system became available. ESS has worked properly since then. I guess even if they are new, the batteries need a little bit of topping off after they are installed to go back to 100%.

For the last few months I've noticed the Auto Stop is not working. The van runs just fine, no issues at all, but now it never shuts the engine off when coming to a stop. I've tried resetting to default settings on the screen, have toggled the button that has the "A" with the circle on it several times, and I've even tried driving with the A/C off to see if the A/C load is what is keeping the car from shutting down. It's as if the ESS feature is disabled or something.

Anyone else have the same issue? The only thing I haven't done is disconnect the battery for a few minutes to completely reset the computer or take it to the dealership (still have a while to go before the oil needs replacement)
Have you had the V53 Recall done? If not, get it done! It fixed ALL my ESS problems!

The V53 Recall is supposed to be for the Power Steering, but it involves cleaning a grounding stud for the Auxiliary Battery, and guess which of the ESS functions uses the Auxiliary Battery? ALL OF THEM!

And if you've had the V53 Recall done already and your ESS still has problems? Have the recall done again and this time tell them to do it right! Or else do it yourself. I brought in pictures I printed off of the eyelets that had to have the adhesive scraped off and of the extra insulation that may have to be cut from the Auxiliary Battery eyelet. I told the shop manager that I was concerned that some mechanics may have not been doing this recall appropriately, and I wanted the mechanic who does the recall to see the pictures I brought in so he does the job right. I think it worked, because my ESS has been working perfectly since I had the recall done. One other person reported that his ESS has been working perfectly since he had the recall done also. So there you go, no guarantees, and it's only my personal opinion so far, but it's got to be worth a try! Let me know if it works for you!
