Push pin retainers

Regarding those three plastic retainers that hold the panel behind the glove box, it is very difficult to push in the center part to effect removal because it is very easy to push too hard and cause that center piece to simply fly out the back never to be seen again. I discussed these little monsters with my local dealer parts guy and he found some for me that have small slots in the outer ring that will allow you to easily pry out the center piece slightly outward which allows the retainer to be removed.

Any reason why you don't share this helpful item # or link for others to use?

Replaced the cabin filter yesterday. Not a high tech job but you might not want to try it on your coffee break at work. I found bending the two plastic stops in difficult. Step 2 The tether, from the manual:
"2. Open the glove compartment door partially, leaving extra slack on the glove compartment tension tether. Detach the glove compartment tension tether by sliding the black tension tether clip down, and popping it out of the slot on the side of the glove compartment door."
I detached the tether from the clip (mistake) and it shot back and disappeared into the retractor I figured out what holds the retractor in place and it when when I unclipped it, it fell down out of sight Managed to touch it and move it and it fell to the floor. I pulled some slack out of the tether and put it back in place.
It got the filter from Amazon like @spreketek did.
Good info about pushing in the center of the push pin retainers to remove them from @BrettP

Changed mine today for the first time in under 10 minutes. It should be noted that the glove box stops need to be moved out of their slot with the glove box about 2/3 of the way CLOSED for best results. I undid the outboard one first, as it seems to have a longer slot to ride in. Charcoal filter from Rock Auto for under $7.

Just found this but have now reached our one-year ownership. So guess I need to think about the filter and those little fasteners. I wonder if once you get those little buggers out (hopefully with the little center buttons) you could cut or file the outer ring yourself in order to provide access to the center button. Does anyone think maybe that is a good idea or is that likely to result in messing up the whole fastener. Is maybe just fussing with it when you need to change the filter a better choice?
