How much of a task is it to remove the headlight, at least enough so I can get that bulb outta there? Hoping it's not too bad, but I haven't seen any posts on how to do it. TIA!

Thank you for that. It’s not much different than any other newer vehicle bumper cover removal. Just a bunch of plastic rivets and a few bolts. Good to know. And at least there is a harness connection at the bumper instead of having to pull wires back from their terminals at the bulb housings. That makes it nice to deal with, then you don’t have a bunch of exposed bulbs hanging around while you work.

Thanks Lily, I hadn't considered the mechanical finger approach. I got one from Amazon and, while it took awhile to position the bad LED (and it was a bad LED, it wasn't because it was loose as I later found out), including using tape on the end of the finger assembly to get it to where I could line up the LED w/the access hole, I got it out. Put in another LED and everything's fine. Great idea on using those fingers to get it out.

Did make a post on Amazon about the LED that went bad though. I asked them for a replacement, and they responded "you're out of the 90-day warranty period" malarkey - BTW, isn't one of the benefits of LEDs that they last longer than regular bulbs? - so I gave them 1 star and wrote a comment. iJDMtoy is the manufacturer of this particular bulb, recommended by others here. Maybe I just got a bad one; the one on the other side still works.

I say the SAME THING about LEDs! I replaced every light in and out of the house with LEDs and am always replacing them! Luckily I get them at Costco and they let me return them for new ones with zero hassle. LEDs do keep it much cooler though because they don’t beat up like a traditional incandescent bulb. 1st world problems....

Also - not sure if you have eve read up on the science of the bulbs and relative positions inside the housing and reflectors and how switching out to cheap LEDs can affect your actual output. It may LOOK brighter but actually the light is much less effective. Google it because there is science and math involved 😀

Thank you Lily. Just so you know, the last two links are duplicates -- we seem to be missing the Lamp Alignment procedure.

Also I was wondering about the 12 volt power-down procedure for hybrids, mentioned in the document for front fascia removal. Does that involve more than pulling the emergency high voltage disconnect under the floor between the first and second rows, followed by disconnecting the negative cable from the 12 volt battery?

Thank you @Lily and @stop-eject . So to power down the 12 volt system on a PacHy you have to first power down the high voltage system. I suppose that makes some sense since the 12 volt battery is charged from the high voltage battery. However powering down the high voltage system is not simple -- you need high voltage gloves and have to get into the power inverter and such things that I don't want to go anywhere near. Somehow I don't think the average garage mechanic who is trying to replace the 12 volt battery would want to do that either.

In a pinch wouldn't it be sufficient just to remove the HV battery disconnect plug under the middle row carpet? That doesn't require special tools or gloves. Most of the other steps are just for confirming that everything has discharged.
