Angry All owners !!! Pacifica hybrid cought on fire - escaped from the car

My hybrid lost acceleration in middle of highway, cought fire. Luckily got out of the car before the fire engulfed the whole front.

Request all hybrid owners to make sure they are ready to handle such situations.

Chrysler said they will not investigate until insurance company request them !!!!

Glad everyone was safe! Crazy! We have kids in 5-point harnesses... would there have been time to get them out?

I carry a small extinguisher in my trunk storage, but this sounds like this happened too fast to have been safely extinguished. Correct?

Could you tell us the state of your recall history? Eg, if you hadn't done the recall on the cat converter potentially catching fire, that might make those who have done the recall less nervous. And conversely it would make those who haven't more nervous. Or, if you're up to date on recalls, it would make us all nervous.

yeah glad to hear that you got out in time. Could you let us know about the year and trim level of your pachy? and whether it has the U73 and/or the U94 recall done?
hope you get this all sorted out soon!

So sorry, that looks really bad. You should post a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (I am assuming you are in the US but don't really know) https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

Sorry, but I have to ask -- did you ever get the U73 Cruise Control recall done? If so, was the work done before August 2018? And if that is also true, did you also get the related U94 recall done. That was supposed to fix a bug in the U73 recall? If you had the U73 recall done before August and you never had the U94 fix then it is possible that your catalytic converters caught fire.

Of course the source of this fire could be something entirely unrelated.

I'm glad you were able to get out of the van. Any info you can provide once you get over the shock of the ordeal will be appreciated.

@ChryslerCares I hope this van can be replaced without delay for this person.
Edit: OP posted that he/she lives in Canada. Will you post the phone number for assistance in Canada if you aren't able to help?

I am so glad you are okay!! Have you had time to start thinking about what you will replace it with when insurance money comes in? Let us know.

This is in Canada - had three calls -
T34 - fixed in Dec 2017, U73 - fixed in July 2018 and U94 -fixed dec 2018.

When fire engine come, could have been 10 mins to completely burnt the car front. video here

as acceleration dropped and vehicle stopped, switched on the parking light and wondering what happened -noticed smoke coming out of hood, pulled the hood lever. by then another car pulled over me and asked me to jump out as he saw flames. took few seconds to open the door as cars were passing in busy highway. when ran few feet front of the car, saw huge red flames underneath and fire coming on the passenger side.

ran to the back of the car and called 911. within 5 mins Ontario Police was there followed by fire and the fire was put off.

Thanks to God, the doors didnt get locked and my family was not there.

Still going through the shock and loss.

It is apparent, the fix is not addressing the issue.

Glad you got out in time. Was this a 2017 Model or 2018? We had ours come to a sudden stop on the highway at 65MPH for the heater signalling connector, but nowhere as bad as yours.
