Have you tested the receptacle? You can pick up a cheap Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) tester at Walmart or Harbor Freight for around $5 (GFCI Tester
). I had a similar issue years ago with my Volt's level 1 charger when I lived in a duplex that had a somewhat ratty attached garage with suspect wiring. Fortunately, it had a utility room with a 240v outlet for a dryer and I was able to use it with a level 2 charger.
If you're having an electrician come out to install a level 2 in the near future, he'll almost assurdly test the wiring, anyway, so you might just wait for that.
