New 2019 Pachy stuck in park

I just purchased a new 2019 Pacifica hybrid limited. After driving home, we have 111 miles on it. Test drive and drive home was uneventful. Parked on the street, then reparked in the garage for charging overnight. When we tried to drive it this morning, the transmission will not shift from park! The gear selector will change from park, to neutral, drive, etc, but there doesn't seem to be any change in actual gear. The selected gear light flashes instead of solid as I expected it would be. After about 30 seconds, the instrument cluster displays a "service transmission" message.

Seeing another post on this forum with the opposite problem (see "Vehicle not in park") we attempted to power cycle the PIM by pulling both fuse 57 and 62 for 30 seconds. No joy. We then attempted to power cycle the TCM by pulling fuse 78, still no joy.

The car is presently parked head-in in the garage. If we do need to tow it to the dealership, any suggestions on how to get it out? I've discovered there is no gear release on the Pachy like the standard Pacifica so we don't have a way to roll it out of the garage to get towed!

Thanks in advance!

Might be a stupid question but all your doors were closed and foot was on the brake before you tried shifting to gear correct? And there is no door open alert showing on the dash?

I’m not sure on this but I did watch the “deep dive” video on the PacHy transmission. It looks like the parking pawl actuator is accessible externally. On the PacHy it is actuated by a motor. The professor in the video appears to have some sort of lever attached to it instead of the motor. If it was me, I’d at least poke around and see if I could find that motor and discover whether it could possibly be removed to gain access to the mechanism.

You would have to dolly the front wheels and lift it from the rear to tow it .

It seems that the "service transmission" message eliminates possibility of an user error?
Have we seen this message on the forum before? I can't recall a single instance.

Thanks for the replies! No stupid questions. Doors were all closed. Got a specialty tow company that used wheel dollies on the front wheels as suggested. Waiting for the hybrid tech to get back from vacation on Monday now. I'll report back with the findings.

Could be a big problem since the electric motors are within the transmission.

Follow up on the problem: Our local dealer was helpful in getting a tow company over that knew how to move the hybrid version without dragging it out. After getting it into the shop, the codes seemed to indicate a problem with the parking pawl (part of the transmission that actually locks it in park). After clearing the codes, the problem was resolved and hasn't reappeared in the 5 days since.

Pertinent codes were:
HCP P07B5-00 Park pawl position sensor 1 circuit performance
HCP P177C-00 Park lock/pawl actuator motor current sensor performance

Seems either a sensor was reading wrong or the pawl got jammed and overloaded the actuator. Manipulating the vehicle for towing could have un-jammed the transmission and pawl lock. Hope it doesn't happen again!

Probably not the same as your issue, but we couldn't get it out of park when we had charging system issues. Battery meter on left of cluster would be needle down after putting it into run. If we wait for 60+ seconds, sometimes it would give us the message to service charging system and the needle would return to 0 level on the battery charge/use dial.

One trick to get the engine running and also pull it out of this dead / battery locked, state, was to pop the hood while in run mode and it automatically sets the ICE running. This allowed us to shift out of P.

It's actually at the dealership now (has been for over a month) and will still be for another month while we wait for the charging system part to come in. Sadly, stuck in a gas guzzling jeep too. Miss the PacHy! Can't believe how many times I've filled up!
