2018 Pacifica Hybrid Dead Within 2 days of Purchase

It looks like the 12v battery has gone out in my hybrid. I can get the car to start with a lithium ion jump starter pack, but it immediately dies again. Do I need to get the battery replaced? Or will it work fine after charging?

It might get better after charging. There have been quite a few reports of bad or dead batteries on hybrids that manifest themselves shortly after purchase. This is especially true if the van has been sitting on the dealer's lot for months without being driven and without them keeping a charge on the hybrid battery. The van is supposed to wake up every 21 days and recharge the 12 volt battery from the hybrid battery, but it won't do this if the hybrid battery is depleted.

Oh, and one other thing. If you charge the hybrid battery using the supplied level 1 charger, it will recharge the 12 volt battery for the duration of the charge. But it stops the charging of the 12 volt battery once the hybrid battery is full.

2018 Molten Silver Pacifica Hybrid Limited purchased Nov 30, 2017.

Hmm, I charged it the entire night with a level 1 charger. It then died. This was on the lot for a while, so the AGM battery may have gone bad.

I took it to a dealer and the battery was indeed, dead. They don't have the battery in stock, and it'll take more than 30 days (June 15th) to get an OEM battery.

However, they offered to replace the battery with an aftermarket one with my own money, and told me to check if my original dealer wants to reimburse it. This is honestly unacceptable for a brand new, 2 day old car with less than 150 miles on it.

That's pretty crazy. Battery issues are why I didn't want to buy a 2018 this spring. Dealers don't maintain the 12V or HV batteries properly.

1. Typical FCA, the dealers do not care about Pacifica customers. The battery is a commonly available part and there is no excuse for not having one. It is absurd that you should have to wait more than a couple of hours for a battery much less 30 days.

2. The OEM battery is junk. Many of us have replaced our OEM batteries with good aftermarket batteries and have been happy. I did. I avoid my dealer and pay for warranty repairs rather than set foot in the thief and idiot infested dealership. I do like my Pacifica...too bad it is not sold by a reputable entity.

What aftermarket battery fits? If I have to buy it out of pocket, I'd like to purchase a good one.

The worst part is, not even a loaner is provided for this. I was told that if there was no service plan on the car, the default warranty does not come with a loaner.

You might want to read the warranty for yourself. That isnít what many people experience.

The manual doesn't call out loaner coverage but that is some BS service from your dealer. Absolutely, the battery falls under the 3yr/36k warranty. Go back to your original salesman and force that dealer to make it right - otherwise it'll get represented as such on your survey. That'll wake them up.
