On my last road trip, I averaged just over 28mpg. I've been getting right around 18mpg around town. I guess the EPA estimates are pretty accurate.

Ours has been averaging to a bit over 21 for 5000 mile of all city driving. I took it out the other day to do some target shooing in the desert, and put about 120 miles of just freeway driving on it and my new average jumped to over 23, and that's for all 5000+ miles total. I just wonder what it'll do when we take a longer trip.

mileage

Now that the weather is much colder mine has been about 14.5 average for all in town and using the remote start which is quite good compared to my other cars I have owned.I am very happy with the mileage and also that is with winter blend gas.

Did a weekend trip from Hou to Austin and back. Got about 27-28 MPG; mostly highway driving, but some city around Austin.

We took a day trip up to Flagstaff from Phoenix. I zero'd out the milage at the beginning of the trip. Our journey starts at 1,000ft elevation and ends at 8,000 in just over 120 miles. I used the ACC all the way (except for that time the big truck freaked me out). I was very impressed with the number.

Smile Highway, City & Towing

My mixed city/highway was running about 15mpg for the first 500 miles. I was hoping it would improve with time and it apparently has.

On my first road trip of 500+ miles I averaged 26mpg which was great for me since that was was great improvement over my Toyota Sienna and I often travel at 5-10 over the speed limit.

Towing however, is another story. My trailer is near the 3500# limit and it has a frontal area of about 80 sq ft. My 1300 mile road trip over the Sierra mountains to Death Valley and back averaged 14mpg. That might not sound good but my 2008 Toyota Sienna did less than 10mpg under the same circumstances.

Overall I was quite satisfied with the tow performance (factory tow) the engine has good power and the transmission does it's job. With the trailer I have been setting the ACC to 62 mph (55 mph limit in CA) and following the traffic. I suspect the Pacifica is optimized for highway travel with light loads and if I demanded better towing mileage I would be advised to buy a diesel truck.

At this point with about 3000 miles it looks like I will settle out about 23 mpg in mixed driving conditions.

Last weekend, we went from Aurora, IL to East Lansing, MI and back with Advanced Cruise Control on. Our ACC was set for 10 <PH over the limit so 70-80 MPH. We averaged 22 MPG. Maybe we need to set the cruise to the speed limit to get better MPG.

I've noticed that as well. I tend to set the ACC to 5mph over the speed limit. The last trip we were on was mostly on state roads with a 50mph speed limit. On those roads, I averaged 28mpg. But when I got to the last 40 mile leg, which was highway (65mph speed limit), my average mileage dropped to about 22mpg. It seems that the sweet spot for mileage in the Pacifica is in the 55-60mph hour range.

There is no doubt that higher speed reduces mileage. Doesn't air resistance increase by the cube of speed or something? And although it's a pretty slick shape for a van, it still punches a big hole in the air.

And the cruise is a little funny on hills too, mine (an LX) downshifts like crazy to keep the speed from creeping up and the MPG indicator goes down. If I just coast the fuel cuts off (I think). If that makes any sense.

...this minivan is cool!....
