New Tires @ 30k Miles?

Took the Pacifica in to get a bunch of little warranty things fixed along with a loud rotational tire noise when going 40+ mph. Dealer came back and said the noise was because the rear tires were coupling and that they should be replaced and also that the front tires were pretty low as well (I did notice myself that the front passenger tire was much more worn than the rest). Is it normal for these OEM tires to be so worn at 30k miles? Especially so unevenly worn across all 4 tires? Also this 'coupling' i have never heard of and had to look up after i got off the phone with the dealer. He said it would be from tire defect or the way the van was driven and that it most likely was not from something the van was doing.

Sure he didn't say "Cupping"?
Tire defects can happen.
Other than tires themselves, balance and alignment are main cause. They check the balance and alignment? I would certainly want complete balance and alignment with new tires.

Sorry, yes he did say cupping. I thought he said coupling when we were on the phone and it wasnt until looked it up that i realized he was saying cupping and then i forgot to make the change in my head when i was writing this. When i get new tires ill make sure they do a balance and alignment.

Wow, that's surprising. My factory tires are looking good at 32,300 miles. I've got 18" Nexens, which tires did your van come with?

Sounds like your tires were not rotated when the van was serviced. That will cause the uneven wear between front/back and the cupping. Having the tires cross rotated (fronts go to back, backs go to front on opposite side of car) will even out the wear and minimize cupping so you get the maximum miles out of your purchase. Chrysler recommends rotating the tires every time the oil is changed.

My wife’s original 2017 Pacifica Bridgestone tires have 39K miles on them and are at 4/32” tread depth with very even wear all around. They will get swapped before reaching 3/32” so I’m guessing we’ll get about 45K which is better than normal for us. Tire stores usually say to change them at 4/32” because those channels serve a critical water pumping function. Consumer Reports agrees at 4/32”. The safety inspection limit here in Texas is 2/32”.

Ours is at 33,000 miles and disappointingly the tires still look new. Still quiet, still rain competent. I was really set on getting some Michelin Premiers but doesn’t look like I’ll be replacing the tires before trade in! Lol.

Costco is pretty good with tire prices plus nitrogen. Balancing included not sure about alignment
