Limited shifted into Neutral while driving

Recently my wife was driving our 2017 limited, which is already plagued with multiple issues, shifted into neutral while driving. The car requested to be shifted into park then back into drive to correct the issue. This seems to be an extremely dangerous fault in the car. I have not brought it into the dealer yet to get looked at, but since its difficult to reproduce, what should I do? It was at a school and plenty of kids walking around at pickup time. I fear that if this happened on the highway or at the wrong time, something bad could have happened. At that point who is responsible?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Jason

Does it shift into neutral and indicate neutral on the shifter? or does it shift into neutral and still indicate in drive?

It was still indicating in drive, so it may not have been in neutral, but there was no power to the wheels, and the dashboard indicated drive (We think).

Any reason for this?

This exact thing happened to my wife in our 2017 Limited with about 32K miles. Tried looking at the manual could not find anything. Now all the more worried that it seems to be occurring with no rhyme or reason.

interesting. I was asking just because everything is electronic and was curious if there was a short or something that shifted it to neutral but that wouldn't be the case if it was still indicating in drive. The only thing I could find that comes close to the message is that you can physically push down the shifter and rotate it clockwise past drive to put it in low manually. Keep us posted, I'll do some more research.
