Stop Start- a reference for those with issues

I wanted to share my overall experience for a year and a half of stop start.

I thought it may help others see that theirs IS functioning properly- its just not designed very well.

When first got my car, the stop start worked CONSTANTLY. No matter how little I drove, it worked.

As the battery aged, this changed. Slowly it would say ESS wasn't ready on occasion but still work 90%...

Then 80%..

Then 50%...

The never. UNLESS-

I drove a decent distance at speeds of 45+ to recharge the battery.

Now, it never works as Im self employed again. I barely drive. Its ALWAYS "not ready"...

UNLESS... I drive a bit.

Now I do drive bunch of short trips daily, and some on the FRWY but I live in SoCal and most of the time I never hit 45+ for more than a couple minutes and that won't charge the ESS enough.

So I think one of the realities is this system just doesn't function very well without driving the car at speed to charge the battery.

Which to me is completely reasonable- I just wish they would admit it... SO many threads where this happens and people replace batteries and some are bad, yes, but I would guess just as many are...

"Working as expected..."

I LOVE my car. And I actually like the ESS feature. Its just not ready for REAL driving... only theorized.

If anyone wants to add or correct me please do! This has been my only ongoing issue thats unresolvable!

And if ChryslerCares chimes in? Well just don't. You've blown smoke at this for a year. I can't stand their presence here anymore. Just BS corporate stooge greasing the forum community for sales. But many seem to like having that fake hug around... LOL

My start stop works decently unless its cold out. If its cold out it always says its charging. When i say cold i mean like 45 degrees or lower even after 3 hour drive on the interstate

LOL!

Are you trying to prevent Chrysler Cares from showing the love?
Showing how much they really, really care?
Exposing them as just a PR function?

What about the solution of never using it? Just turn it off as soon as you start the van.

Well said. This is pretty much how mine works. In cold weather I may have to drive 15 or 20 miles before ESS becomes operational (that is to say leaves the battery charging mode). Otherwise, the vehicle is fully warmed At first I thought the battery was fishy or something really depletes the battery in cold weather.

Just the other day when it was 80 degrees, ESS was operating literally within blocks after leaving the house from a cold start. I find it to working very well now that the weather is warm.

For what it is worth the vehicle has one winter and one summer on it with 11000 miles.

I am coming to believe cold weather is where the weakness of ESS is.

hi pacy owners first post here:
Bought a 2018 pacifica last year May 2018, a lower trim one but with S package. start stop feature works great until one year later last week it just suddenly stopped on an intersection. It was a stop light, when we're about to go the car wont start. so i turned it off and started again and it started but i get the warning A on the dashboard saying auto star/stop not working. was not able to go to the dealer and drove it for 2 weeks without the autostart/stop feature. Today suddenly it won't start. light turn on but it does not start. tried to jump start the same. tried autostart from key still the same it will not start. called dealer but i can't setup an appointment since it is Sunday. My question is how do Chrysler deal with this issue? would they tow my car? who pays for it? we did not buy extended warranty and it's just been a year since. This is our first Chrysler. Thank you

Please check this thread, at the end ChryslerCares suggested about a new TBS

https://www.pacificaforums.com/forum...-went-bad.html

So far nobody had the new software installed at the dealer.

Try cleaning the battery terminals. Mine had a recall for power steering failure but it was actually a problem with the battery terminals. The recall repair is to clean the battery terminals. Prior to the repair, ESS rarely worked. Since they repair, it works all the time.
