My Dilemma :Trade in the lease, buy it or walk away?

Hi everyone, I really wish I knew this forum existed earlier. It may have saved me a few headaches and sleepless nights over the past 3 years/30,000 miles!

When your lease is up, will you look at buying the car, trading in for a new one or walking away?

Three years ago I went against my personal mantra of never buying a 1.0 anything. However, I owned and leased the older Pacifica models and this lease just seemed right. Unfortunately I am questioning my decision.

I have had issues with:
-Passenger sliding door not locking (kept in shop for a week - replaced something in electrical system)
-Passenger sliding door not closing all the way (after returned from fix above)..Intermittent, shop couldn't fix
-Hard shifting at low speeds (even though I have been told several times that it was fixed with a software update) ..intermittent, no fix
-Several instances of the car being unable to start after filling up the gas tank at a local station..Intermittent, no fix
-Front driver window not working. New issue, taking to shop Friday. Did I also mention that the shop I go to is 25 miles away, so I have literally racked up a few thousand miles in just service visits...

Here is my predicament. I can buy my existing vehicle (Touring L Plus), but with all that has happened I am afraid of what the repairs will be like moving forward.
Unfortunately, I traded in a vehicle and put cash into the first lease , so I no longer have 7k that I can put into the lease of a new touring L Plus..

So it looks like my options are (A) keep my existing vehicle and wish for the best, or (B) lease a cheaper model than what we have to make the finances work out.

As much as it breaks my heart, I may need to choose (C) walk away completely. Has anyone bought their lease, and how has it been working for you?

I don't want to walk away (I really do love the car minus the problems), but my lease is up next month and it is going back into the shop to get the driver window fixed Friday.. With the number of "Intermittent" items still out there, I may not want to take the chance of the expense I may incur with ownership.

Would love to know your thoughts.
Thanks,

I am on my second Pacifica lease and will get a third. I have had none of these issues in my 2017 or now 2019. They are trouble free for me. For context I have about 40K miles in total between both vehicles.

My mom always said “If it’s doubtful... it’s dirty”. You sound like you have many doubts so I’d probably just walk away and assume the universe is trying to tell you something, haha. That said, I would give PacificaJohn the opposite recommendation (but I don’t think he needs a recommendation because he sounds confidently sure).

I’ll likely get another Limited skipping the vacuum and trailer hitch next time. I had many trips to the dealer under warranty but my early 2017 has been surprisingly trouble free for well over a year now.

Respectfully,

I, too, have had so many issues with my Pacifica that I don't know what to do at this point. I swear I almost cried this morning when I dropped it off at the dealership for another round of "hunt for the 15 things that are intermittently wrong and usually work fine when at the dealership" game. I'm 2 years and 33,000 miles in to this purchase and I've been second-guessing it the entire time. I love the features, but I'm starting to feel unsafe in the vehicle (same transmission issue you have, RMullin1). I'm so frustrated, yet I don't want to lose money... sigh.

I have been leasing since 1985. The ability to walk away is my favorite part of leasing. The more complex the car, the less that I want one out of warranty. I will probably lease another Pacifica but I want no part of my 2018 when the lease and warranty are up.

I think if leasing is what you are looking for I’d put zero down and opt for a 24 month lease to mitigate , tires , breaks , etc . This way you get warranty and keep your upkeep expenses to zero ( even do just one oil change on the year date of purchase ) .

My lease runs out 5-1-2020. I don't know what I will do. We really don't want to give up the color but it's been discontinued. A 6 year loan on the purchase price would result in a $100/month increase in the payment I have now. No way to know now what a new lease will cost next year. Even though we've had only one major problem & no minor ones, like others, I don't want to own this vehicle without a warranty. When the time comes, I will look into an extended warranty but that will add to the cost. After I understand all the options & costs, I will make a decision but my guess is that I will lease a new one and have to give up the color. Phooey on you Chrysler for discontinuing our color. We've had many compliments and twice I have been waved down in a parking lot because they wanted to know about the color. .

I love that color combo. Had I been able to find a 2018 Hybrid with it and AST, I'd have been all over it. When I was shopping early this year there was one Hybrid Limited in that color combo, down in AZ. No AST, though.

Just wanted to offer a little more to my story. On my long winded post above, I stated that my driver's side window didn't work and I was going to have the shop look at it on my next oil change.
Well, the morning of my appointment THE WINDOW STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I couldn't believe it!

My wife took 2 videos on separate days of the broken window that I showed the service dept. and their response was still "Sorry, we couldn't duplicate it and all seems to work as it should be". Now if I can only find a way to live next to the dealership, it's possible that this magical vehicle fixing forcefield may apply to my car 24x7...
