2,300lb popup, am I okay?

I appreciate all the responses from my last thread on pulling the hybrid, but after weighing the pros and cons, my wife and I decided sticking with a popup camper would be best for us for now.

90% sure I will pull the trigger on the Rockwood Freedom 2280:
UVW:2278
Hitch weight: 289

I have the 2017 Pacifica with factory tow group package. Family of four (kids are 3 and 5).

The Pacifica shouldn't have trouble with this weight, right?

I know I will need the brake controller since it is over 2,000 lbs.
Will I need the anti-sway or weight distribution bars as well?

Any other suggestions?

I think that the manual was mentioning a max towing capacity of 3600 lb. You are more than OK.

That's a great choice for your car. You do use it for vacation, and vacations should be worry free. Enjoy!

As to your question, I am no expert on this, but if I recall correctly, your factory tow package includes anti-sway software control. That should be enough as you will be at least 700 lbs under max.

Now, post pictures when you get your popup! Lots of them!

I assumed it would be fine, but a little skittish since the old popup we sold was less than 1,900 lbs.
But aside from the old one pushing down the rear end a bit, I barely noticed it was there once I got moving.

Still haggling a bit, but hoping to make a deal before the end of the day! I'll be sure to come back and post some pictures on our fist outing

Not sure on the WD hitch. Your tow vehicle is a uni-body vehicle and not a body-on-frame truck so not sure how it will handle the stress put on it by a WD hitch.

You will be fine. Read through the +/- 2900 lbs post and you will see the max towing capacity is not really 3600 lbs. 3600 lbs is closer to the max towing and cargo capacity. So at 2300 lbs you have another 1200 lbs in cargo capacity.

Speaking from experience I have a 1300 lbs popup and have towed one as heavy as 1500 lbs. The Pacifica handled both of these like a champ. Stopping distance is still good, highway speed were never an issue either. The only thing the Pacifica did have issues with was downshifting. The transmission does not always know when to downshift and you have to give it extra gas to do so.

I second mattlreese. That trailer weight leaves you a nice reserve for the weight of additional passengers & cargo. I predict the Pacifica will handle the new trailer very well. Enjoy the travel & the great outdoors!
