Battery reconditioning

Ok, so with only 4500 miles on my PacHy this is a first for me. When turning the van on a message displays saying something like, “Plug in vehicle for battery reconditioning”. Has anyone ever experienced this?

I live in Wisconsin and with the cold weather we've been having recently (-25F at night and 0-5F day), I've been seeing this message every single time I use the car. I have no idea if that's normal, but I'd be very interested to know what it means as well.

Yeah, we’ve had some pretty cold weather here in Illinois too. Hmmmm.

And the worst is yet to come. Not being a hybrid owner, how do you come out of work wnd clear a hybrid with a half inch of ice and the temperature is well below freezing. There cannot be enough juice in the battery to do that. Can you force the engine to run to make the heat needed to clear the ice and snow?

1989 Plymouth Voyager

Use the remote start function from your keyfob and/or turn the heat on and set the temperature high (like 80 degrees).

As a multi EV and PHEV owner I can say for sure that the ice coming on during an app triggered remote start is bad news for Chrysler and possibly for an unlucky owner There should be concerns made to Chrysler for an updat tot to the control software to either lock out the ice when plugged in or give the owner the option to start ice if needed with the default being NO ice activation on a plugged in remote start.

This is a serious safety issue . My BMW Phev wou”d never start the ice when plugged in during preconditioning or a remote start.

Chrysler should adopt the same safety measure .
Is anyone willing to call Chrysler ?

I don't see anything that suggests the ICE will automatically start during plug-in battery conditioning. However, remote starting is available on the gas model, and it is up to the owner to know if it is in a closed garage. That same owner wisdom applies to the PHEV.

That's how Chrysler programmed the hybrid and how it's always worked, the ICE may run after a remote start even while plugged in. The way to heat up the car while plugged in without the ICE being able to run is to manually push the start button twice to put the car in "RUN" without putting your foot on the brake pedal. It's inconvenient for sure, but unlikely that they'd change it now.

Off topic a bit but in an all electric vehicle away from home with lots of ice could be in a world of hurt. You have to melt ice and then get home. Bring warm gloves and keep the heat off.

I see that the PHEV hav assistance from the engine at least.
