The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently issued the Pacifica’s first recall for faulty seat belts.

Chrysler will need to recall 2017 Pacifica units produced between February 22, 2016 and April 28, 2016 for faulty center overhead seat belt stow clips. This will only affect the center passenger seat belts in the second and third row as the clips may fracture thus rendering the seat belts useless during a crash.

Without the use of these seat belts, passengers in the middle have an increased chance of injury if an accident were to occur and the clips can turn into projectiles which is why Chrysler is recalling the affected vehicles for repairs.

This problem was first noticed by an assembly plant on March 26 and when Chrysler looked into their clip supplier they found out that the supplier had made changes to its tooling process which produced flawed stow clip materials.

In order to fix the problem, your dealership will need to replace the third row overhead seat belt stow bezel and the second row too if needed. This should be done for free and although Chrysler has not yet released a notification schedule, you can still contact your dealership about it or give the company’s customer service department a call at 1-800-853-1403. The recall specific number is S42 if needed.

We have had our Pacifica in the shop on numerous occasions since purchasing and we were told that on top of this recall there was a recall on the sliding doors (both sliding doors would make a terrible grinding noise when opening and closing, the fix was more grease) and the wiring harness (this was told to us after taking our Pacifica in for a different issue, we were informed that they are finding corrosion build up already happening)

We are picking up our new Limited on Friday and when I checked the VIN #, it's one with this safety belt recall.
Guess I will call the dealership and hope it will be fixed prior to us picking it up - we will be using the safety belt for a child car seat - dealership is 50 miles one way - I hate to think about having to make trips back and forth for recalls (already!)

It was manufactured prior to April 28, 2016 and is still on a dealer lot? That's surprising. Regardless, dealers are supposed to perform all open recalls and rapid response campaigns that apply to vehicles on their lots before they're sold.

By the way, you don't have to go back to the purchasing dealer for recalls and warranty work if there's one closer.

Hi JillWill--your dealership needs to perform the recall on the Pacifica, if it is being sold as a new vehicle, before you take delivery. Sometimes there is a delay of a day or two in seeing the recall closed out after it is performed while the claim comes through the system; regardless, if it is still open on your vehicle when you arrive, please alert us.

Thank you Kori!
I checked the VIN # earlier today and it did show a recall. I called the dealership and voiced my concerns - I am expecting a call back. I just checked the MOPAR website and it shows NO recalls - I did not use that particular website when I checked earlier, so maybe it's been fixed today - or - the first website wasn't updated. Thank you for your reply and I will rest assured I can reach out here in the forum if need be.

Happy to help! https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls.html is our recall site, so if it's showing that is closed there, that should be the most up-to-date. If you ever have a question though, we're happy to double-check it on our end!

Mopar not showing recall - Pacifica does have this issue

I bought my vehicle on Sunday and on Tuesday I noticed that the center seat belt in the third row is faulty and will not clip into place. I checked the mopar site and my vehicle is not listed as a recall despite having this issue. I have 5 small children, hence the reason I purchased the 2017 Pacifica. How would I go about making sure that this is corrected asap as I cannot even drive the van with the kids because the seat belt doesn't work? It's either that the mopar site hasn't been updated to accurately reflect all the vins or that there are additional vehicles out there with this issue that they are not aware of. I am pretty disappointed!

Don't fret the MOPAR website. The dealer should take seatbelt issues very seriously regardless of recall status. If it is broken in any way the warranty should fix or replace with no questions asked.
