same issues no help from FCA or dealer

I have had the vehicle in the shop 5 times for the same problems with the transmission. I even had a drivability technician ride with me. When the rough shift happened he told me that I'm not driving the car properly. I felt like slowing down and asking him to jump out! Come on I'm 53 years old and I have owned 10 vehicles plus operated numerous company cars in my driving lifetime. I have never had transmission issues with any of them period. I drive like a granny. I have given up and just tried to live with the issues. They tell me that rough shifts and gear hunting at start is normal. Try selling this van to a prospective buyer. If they experience the rough shifts they will run for the hills. I have logged complaints with FCA but they are no help. The dealer reports they can never find anything wrong. I suspect they are driving it around the parking lot and calling it good. Summary of issues.
1. noisy and makes whining and creaking sounds on cold winter mornings before warming up.
2 shifts from 3rd to 4th or 5th gear are rough when moving at 40 MPH. Seems when this happens the unit seems to be stuck in 3rd gear once it shifts it is metal on metal. Started at 10K miles
3. Vehicle seems to be starting in 2nd gear and immediately drops into 1st causing the vehicle to lurch. This started around 25K miles.
odometer hit 30K this week.
On another note they fixed the corrosion issues on the hood with no hassles. They gave me a Pacifica as a loaner. I drove it for 3 days and the transmission worked perfectly.

Hi Daveinpvks,
I am sorry to hear about your experience. Do you currently have a case opened with Customer Care to add additional assistance and ensure this is documented? If not, please send our team a private message and we would be happy to get this process started for you!

Same transmission problems here, too. I'm so embarrassed when I drive carpool and have my van loaded with 7 middle and high schoolers and the thing feels like we just got hit. The kids all look around to make sure we weren't in an accident. Happens regularly, but not regularly enough that technicians can replicate the problem. Had it in the shop at least three times for this so far, and once again today.

I've been told that they've done some updates and whatnot but it still feels unsafe to drive. And yes, I've opened a Chrysler Cares case...

Plus one here....same exact problem as others. Hard clunking when shifting at low speeds intermittently. Taken to the dealer 3 times but they say nothing is wrong even though they did the software update. My wife is ready to get rid of it and hates the van now.

I must be the lucky one.

I've had nothing but admiration for my Pacifica's tranny. No issues. I try to press the auto-start off everytime i get into the Pacifica, so that may be why I am not experiencing this issue. Drivetrain wise, I am a very happy camper. Now, the **** corrosion on my front hood on the other hand..... very irritating.
I have the bad transmission and had the corrosion. They fixed the corrosion immediately.

I took the van in a couple of weeks ago to have the dealer work on the 15 mph jolt that returned a third time (around 44,000 miles) after having the transmission adaptations reset twice (at about 14,000 and 25,000 miles). This time the van was kept a week and the dealer service department worked with Chrysler technicians over the phone/internet to see if a more permanent solution could be made. The goal was to get the clutch filling counts at or close to 10.

When the van is taken in, the service department is supposed to contact Chrysler who will give instructions on how this is done. It took several road tests (over several days) and somehow adjusting the clutch filling counts. For my van they went from 5,4,4,3 to B14,C9, D24, E11. I don't really understand all this. I am just offering info. The dealer shouldn't have to repeat the issue. This is a known issue to Chrysler.

It hasn't been long enough to be sure the problem is really solved, but I thought I would post that another effort has been made to address the problem. Even if I have to take the van back in again, it is nice having the transmission shifting smoothly for awhile.

Similar Frustration

I can't believe after this much time that Chrysler is still ignoring the fact that they have a transmission issue.

Our '17 Pacifica does the same - intermittently when coasting to a stop around 10-15 or lightly accelerating in the same speed range, you get a 'very' heavy shift that makes you grit your teeth, it feels like you have been rear-ended. Similar experience with the Dealer (we cannot recreate the problem).

Now today, we had the no response issue in traffic where my family almost got wrecked (pressed the gas pedal down, nothing...). FCA - you KNOW there is an issue here, step-up! Be Best. @ChryslerCares

Same exact thing is happening to my 2017 Pacifica. Took it into the dealer and they could not duplicate either. Did a software update which did not fix the problem. This time the service engine light came on and here in another week I’ll be putting in a new transmission. This will be the last Chrysler product I will buy.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to hear about all of us basically reporting the same serious transmission issue(s), and everyone getting the same basic response from theircdealershops and Chrysler care. I say ENOUGH already. Let's get organized in a group and either file a lawsuit or contact the news outlets about this dangerous situation. I am willing to take the lead on this(I too have a family, and am very concerned about my wife and kids safety in this vehicle.) If everyone would like to email me their name, city and state, year and exact model Pacifica, and your email address, I promise i will provide bi-weekly updates on progress i have made in getting to a solution for all involved. We need to be 1 United voice to get action. My name, city, state and email address are listed below. Let's get this taken care of

I have herd a moderate amount of these same complaints with the earlier models not so much with the 18 and 19 model years. I have been in the auto business for over 17 years. With that said I see more and more issues with the programming and more and more gadgets which I think go hand and hand. I do believe the ride and options that you get with the Pacifica make it hard to beat. But then again if you can keep it on the road I completely understand the frustration.

My wife's 2017 Pacifica Limited started doing the exact same hard shift at slow, normal acceleration between 5-15mph about a month ago. The shift is so hard that it is akin to being rear-ended. It was an obvious safety concern for me as my wife shuttles our 10 month old daughter around to various activities are town regularly. When the issue happens, a moment of lost control is experienced (loss of consistent acceleration, sudden braking sensation, mild shock to the driver/passengers). After the frequency increased, I scheduled service with our local Chrysler dealer. The van went in today and I was informed that the technician was not able to reproduce the issue but that a transmission update was applied consistent with a service bulletin they discovered. I will be taking delivery of the vehicle later today. Hoping that this takes care of the problem, however after reviewing the contents of this thread I'm not convinced it will be. I wanted to get the service completed as soon as possible to document that we were experiencing the issue because the vehicle is currently at 57,500 miles roughly and our powertrain warranty expiration will be right around the corner.

I think getting @ChryslerCares involved for a start will help. It's now a hot link so just click on it and message them. I also recommend taking it to another dealership because it's sounds like the one you're currently taking it to sucks. You might also want to search for threads with the transmission keyword and see what others have done to remedy the issue.
We have had the same problem but when we are not fully stopped. For example we almost stop while going slowly around a corner say in a subdivision or do a rolling stop (which we know we shouldn't). It literally jolts. Our dealership said something like "It's so hard to pinpoint all these electronics"!

The "rolling stop" jolt was fixed on ours by one of the software updates. This would have been around June 2018, so I'm not sure which version of software was available at that time. I don't remember requesting the update, so it may have been related to a recall they were performing.

I am having all of these same problems with my 2017 Pacifica. It has been happening for a year and it is currently in the shop for the 3rd time. Each time they have said that they can't duplicate the problem. Currently they fixed the auxiliary battery. When they told me that I asked about the transmission issue. They said it would all be cleared up after replacing that battery. Seriously! I have no doubt that after I pick it up it will continue to jolt our of first gear. Has anyone had this resolved???

See post #66 and what was done 3,000 miles ago and is still working so far.

I have been complaining about a jolt for over a year. Been in the dealership multiple times. Something, can’t get it duplicated. It’s so annoying. I hate this van. We did replace the battery in July and no change.

Anyone had any success? I just took van to dealer for the 3rd time along with a case #. All they did was re-learn the transmission and said it was fixed. I know it will come back again. We need to band together and demand some serious answers.

Try this: Ver1 and Ver2
How to get rid of the heavy jolts and sluggish shifting

version 1
1) turn the start switch to on, but do not start the car. All trouble lights are on and the fans in the heating and cooling systems are on if that was the position they were left in.
2) push the gas pedal right to the floor and hold it there for 10-20 seconds.
3) turn the start switch to off with your foot still on the gas pedal.
4) release the gas pedal, but do not put your foot on the brake pedal
5) wait for 2 minutes before starting your car. Apparently the electronics are being reset

Do the procedure twice, it seems to work better

Go for a drive with moderate acceleration so that it shifts through most of the gears. It should feel like a new tranny.
I find I need to do this every 1000 kms

Version 2

Same as version 1 but instead of putting ignition to START and then pushing the accelerator to the floor, push the accelerator to the floor and then turn the ignition to start then hold there for 10 to 20 secs.

This version seems to work better for my van and I only need to do it once per reset, which I do every 1000 kms.

If it wasn’t for this reset working for my van I think I would have traded it long ago. That clunking was really upsetting to say the least.
I now have 82000 kms on the clock. I have been doing this reset for almost 50000 kms
Its a bit of an inconvenience but it allows me to love this van.
Good luck
Merry Christmas
