Hi everyone. I got my brand new Pacifica last August from a dealership in Illinois. At 2800 miles the transmission started shifting rough (1st maintenance trip)then was shot They replaced the transmission at 2800 miles (2nd)My check engine light came on again around 3400 miles for the solenoid (3rd). This week, while driving with my 2 young children, I was on a 4 lane road doing 50 mph and the car shut off. I was able to coast it to the shoulder without getting hit and the car gave me instructions to hit the start/stop button. I had to put it in park then hit start/stop.
Anyone considering getting this vehicle DON’T. I get a new car every 3 years and this “car” is a POS. I have been in contact with Chrysler too many times to count.
I did speak with the dealership this morning and they told me regarding the car shutting off they had another car in for the exact same problem and were waiting on a fix from Chrysler. I don’t want to drive my Pacifica anymore.

Normally I don't support those who create posts saying "Don't buy a Pacifica!!", but in this matter I am inclined to agree. My friend was considering getting one and I suggested he first look at the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation website for the number of "engine shutdown while underway" complaints. This is a serious issue that Chrysler must address (again) before there are crashes with serious injuries. Until then, and it pains me to say this, I can not recommend buying a Pacifica.

I can recommend getting a Pacifica. I am on my second lease and loving it! Neither Pacifica has ever shut off. I have no idea of why this issue would occur.
My N=2 experience has been just great. Hopefully yours can be too!

Having more details about yours would also help. Is it a Hybrid or Gas? Trim level?

Well, it seems most aren't having problems, but those that are having problems sure are describing some horrible experiences! FWIW, I've had this happen three times lately - thankfully only at stoplights and not at speed. That sounds just horrifying.

Yours occurs when it's stopped? What happens when you temporarily disable ESS each time you start it up?

Hi Nikkis,

We're sorry to hear of your experience with your Pacifica and we're here to provide additional support while your vehicle is in service if needed. Feel free to shoot us a PM if this is of interest to you, and we can have a look into it.

Nikkis, I have had my car since October and 4 times this has happen to me. I have been lucky always at a stop light. Mine has been back to the dealer and of course they can't find anything wrong. This is crazy nothing is being done.

To those on this thread having shutdown issues, please file a report of your experience with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) here if you haven't already. Select "Vehicle Owners" tab near top of screen, then scroll down to find "Report Safety Problem". The more reports, the better chance of getting the proper recognition this issue deserves.

Hello Nikkis,
I am wondering what Chrysler has done for you after all of these issues. My 2018 turned 1 year old today. It received its second transmission this week. The first time was due to a catastrophic loss of power while driving. I have also had it in multiple times for auto start/stop failure that causes a loss of power in which the car has to be restarted while stopped, as well as at least 5 times for creaking doors that simply can't be fixed. It has been out of service for 59 days in the 365 days I've owned it.

I'm trying to decide whether to pursue lemon law arbitration but hoping that Chrysler will do the right thing and take my vehicle back before I need to pursue legal action. Have your problems been solved to your satisfaction?
