2018 Toyota Sienna Gets a Makeover - Motor Trend
Instead of a complete redesign, Toyota has chosen to refresh the current-gen Sienna which has been around for seven model years already.
Cool safety features added standard, some kind of Android streaming for the rear, but it doesn't mention anything about Android auto or Apple carplay. 4G LTE WIFI in upper trims

One interesting thing that one of the articles mentioned...
"Toyota provides no evidence that it has resolved the Sienna’s primary flaw, which is its failure to earn a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)"

That is not a new Sienna completely redesigned. It is a old Sienna that came out in what, 2010 with a new front bumper and rear bumper. Not much else is changed externally. One advantage the Sienna will have is the built in Android streaming capability to the rear seat entertainment system, but even MotorTrend questions why Toyota just went the "refresh" route with the Sienna saying, " it’s interesting that Toyota has chosen to refresh its current-gen Sienna, which has been around for seven model years already."

Personally, The Kia Sedona looks better. I think Toyota really messed the Sienna up with this refresh.

Toyota is taking an interesting route and hoping that it would pay off. By not doing a redesign they don't have to spend all the money that goes along with the task. They are banking on enough changes to keep their customers loyal with new colors and interior upgrades etc. they already put a new engine and trans in for 2017. So combine that with the 2018 then maybe you convince customers they don't have to deal with first year models and unsure reliability. And they still got AWD.

People vote with their wallets so time will tell how the 2018 model year minivans truly stack up against each other.

^^^^ Chrysler tried that with the T&C and Dodge Grand Caravan ;)

I'm glad Toyota is putting in the advanced safety features as standard equipment for 2018. As a 2018 Pacifica holdout, I'm hoping that this move, along with Honda's decision to include these features as standard on all trims besides the lowest, will put pressure on Chrysler to also include these as standard on at least the top trim levels for 2018. Even if the base MSRP increases by $1,000 - I'll still be ahead by a grand ;-)

P.S. I love the 2017 Pacifica! My reasons for waiting until later this year are; I won't buy a first model year redesign, I want CarPlay and Gen 4 uConnect w/LTE, and I'm hopeful they add a height adjustable tailgate. LED headlights would be icing on the cake too ;-). And it doesn't hurt that by waiting a bit longer I'll have to borrow less, lol.

by 2022, the avoidance braking system will be standard on all new cars from all manufacturers as part of an industry (not government forced) agreement.

Not an attractive design in my opinion, Toyota's seems to be going for an angular theme they went crazy with the Toyota Prius. According to the article the Sienna debuts in April, it would be nice if that will encourage Chrysler to release the 2018 Pacifica sooner but I doubt it....

Our owners manual suggests that this is possible with the Pacifica as well.

About $25 chromecast will accomplish this nicely, but it would be nicer if it were integrated without extra wires in the back of seat port. But kudos to Pacifica for making the screen content mirror from one to the other.
That's what I'm saying. According to the owners manual, Uconnect Theater supports native Android streaming. If it's not there now, I would think it must be coming since they added it to the 6th edition of the manual. Of course, it says things like "if equipped", so who knows.

Well this guy's blurb hit it right on the mark. The Sienna would have been a shoe-in for our family if not for the goofy front grille looks. Not into the Lexus look (now common to all of Toyota line it seems) at all. It is a bold approach that might have gone too far. As a result we started looking outside Toyota, which led us to the Pacifica.

I owned a 2011 Sienna SE. I honestly waited for Honda and Toyota to release what their refreshes would look like. Honda was a bit of a yawn after the teaser they released. I saw this release from Toyota and that sealed it. I bought the Pacifica a few days later. What a mailed in, lazy effort by Toyota. Added nothing new while going backwards on what was an aggressive but still handsome face.

I wasn't impressed by the Sienna either all it has going for it is its history of reliability.

even the reliability of the Sienna is a big question mark. Did you know, that since 2015, the Sienna has more recalls than the T&C?

IMHO, recalls are not so good, but no so crucial compare to initial and long term quality of the car that affects resale value and our joy from the car. I'm not talking about ride....

these 2 factors were crucial for me after FCA delays and unclear situation to deliver product on time. I also believe that there no really new 2018 Sienna, that's why I chosen 2017 (I do not like Odyssey but this is another story)

I never pay much attention on visual appearance, so i do not care about shapes much (loved Pontiac Aztec and Isuzu vechicross at some points of my life :) )

I test drove the sienna and it was a strong runner up to the Pacifica, but lost because price would have been more for comparable options, and my wife also preferred the Pacifica (actually more strongly than I did, and she was a Chrysler skeptic prior to test drive).

Kind of weird, but I kind of preferred the feeling sitting in the passenger seat of the sienna to the Pacifica, but driving I liked the Pacifica better.

If I had had the bucks to spend on the top of the line model (went with touring l plus), the lounge seats on the top of the line Toyota are a better gimmick than the vacuum.

One thing that really annoyed me with my Sienna was that even with the 2nd row seats out, it still wasn't a flat loading surface. There is a plastic tray that the 8th passenger jump seat locks into that you can't remove. You could never get something to truly lay flat because of that. Will be interesting to see if they stay with that system on the 2018. It was nice that the 8th passenger seat did actually "stow and go" in the rear easily unlike the 8th passenger seat in the Pacifica. But as far as utility and ability to load more stuff easily the Pacifica has the Sienna beat. Other things that the Sienna did better was storage up front - dual glovebox was nice and the console was much more convenient to stash things than the "super console" in the Pacifica.

Looks like a catfish from the front. I had been sort of liking Toyota's recent design language, but that just looks ugly to me.
I liked the Sienna but only from inside and the ride and quietness. Looking from outside it generates a sort of visceral reaction from my inside :D. But you never know what car will you end up ultimately. There are so many factors at play.
