Picked up my 2018 Limited ICE on December 4th. Running through the delivery checklist from another thread, I checked for CarPlay at the dealership when I picked up, couldn't get it to work with my iPhone X with the cable I'd brought. Asked dealer to see if they could get it working, they couldn't. Figured it wasn't critical at that moment, I'd get it working later. Other Uconnect features were working such as bluetooth, vents, seatback screens, etc.

Well, now I've spent a good deal of time trying to get this working in my spare time, as well as spending about 90 minutes on the phone with uconnect support. They couldn't figure it out.

Things that don't work:
  • iPhone X CarPlay (iOS 11)
  • iPhone 6S CarPlay (iOS 11)
  • iPad Mini CarPlay (iOS 11)
  • LG G4 Android Auto (Marshmallow)

Attempted fixes:
  • Different cables, different USB port, wiggling connector, etc
  • Starting car with device plugged in, plugging in after startup, unplugging/replugging
  • Pulling fuse 76
  • Enter "engineering menu" via holding temperature up + down buttons (this sequence didn't work for unknown reasons)
  • Enter "dealer menu" via holding temperature up + down + front defrost buttons (this didn't have any useful options)
  • Crying silently

Has anyone had an issue with CarPlay/Android Auto just not working on a 2018? And if so, how'd it get resolved?

Not much help, both worked fine for me first time. I will note that only the top USB port can be used for them. When you plug into that top port does the phone act as if it’s connected to anything (like showing charging)? If not I’d guess the cable to the port wiggles loose behind the dash.

Your troubleshooting steps look very complete to me. If the iPhone X AND the iPhone 6S both don't work this looks like a warranty issue even if they have to replace the radio. I'm sure all the latest customers with iPhones are trying out Apple CarPlay on their 2018s so someone at the dealer should know exactly how to set it up (if you are missing a step) or declare if the radio has failed.

That's what I feared I'd hear... USB port works, phones charge just fine. Bottom port works correctly for mp4 movie playback. Annoying.

The sales staff had about as much idea of how Uconnect works as my grandma would... They pulled in their 'expert' who proceeded to plug in the phone, go "huh", unplug phone, replug phone, go "huh", repeat about 15 times and then said "Hmmm, are you sure you have CarPlay in this car?" Hopefully service department will be a touch more clueful.

Carplay works fine for me iPhone 6S in the top USB port. Picked up my Touring L Plus about a month ago. So far, I haven't had any issues.

Make sure you have the "Smartphone device mirroring" option enabled on the Bluetooth page of UConnect. I had a terrible time getting Android Auto to work with my Nexus 6P before I discovered that box needed to be checked.

2018 Pacifica-Audio with Phones-Not working

I just bought my 2018 Pacifica, last Saturday Jan 20, 2017. Audio Phone is not working. It is not working with Samsung S8 and it is not working with IPhone 7. This is crazy and ridiculous. I went to the dealer, they want me to leave the car there for at east one they to 'play" and see if something works. They have no clue of what is going on. The salesman, is saying that he haven't been working since Saturday,,,,,hahaha. Please don't buy this car unless you are 100% sure that all "technological toys" are working perfectly, don't sing any documents before....

I have the same problem with my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L as well. When i plugged it in for the first time, it says "the accessories is not supported" and from there whenever i plug it in it doesn't do anything besides charging the phone (Iphone 7 PLUS with latest software)

Carplay WAS working....

I am experiencing the same issue as the OP with one execption, mine WAS working!

We've had our 2018 Hybrid Limited for two weeks now. It worked great the first week and hasn't this last week. I spend 30 min on the phone with Chrysler Cares (very polite) before being transferred to XM Guardian.

The tech I spoke with initially tired to tell me my car didn't have Carplay. When I told him I was absolutely positive it did he changed his tune. Then he told me we needed to reset the Bluetooth modem - even though Bluetooth worked. He insisted that Bluetooth pairing was required for carplay and that it wouldn't work over USB. So I'm trying not to go off on him at this point and kindly reminded him that while it WAS working for me tethered last week without bluetooth pairing, and I let him know that only a handful of OEM decks do have wireless carplay (the Pacifica not being one of them). I then told him that I will (reluctantly) default to him as the expert on the matter. His response was "well I can guarantee you that you dont need to connect with USB for Carplay, we are one of the few manufactured who offer this". Sigh - after I called him out and he agreed I was correct he then tried to tell me that I fired the USB port because I left the cable plugged in while the phone was not - even though I told him it worked from the iPod source.

So needless to say he couldn't get it working and told me I need to take it to the dealer. After having a 2017 hybrid at the dealer for three months, then waiting another 4 months for our 2018 to get here I am very reluctant to take it in.

Has anyone been able to get this to work?

CarPlay works for me (2018 Hybrid Limited).

Just make sure it's on in the settings on UConnect.

Also check your phone to make sure that you have "Allow CarPlay while locked" enabled (under General > CarPlay).

I turned it off because whenever I switch to certain apps on my phone, it turns off the radio and I have to switch back again.

I'm assuming that UConnect CarPlay only works through the USB, when I am just connected through Bluetooth, CarPlay does not activate.

Hi tbier,

Sorry to hear about your concerns with your Uconnect system and the misinformation you received. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto does require the device to be connected to the Uconnect system via USB, we always recommend using a ceritfied cable to connect. We'd recommend checking the settings @OCPacifica referenced above and if this doesn't help please send us a PM with your VIN for further assistance.

Thanks @OCPacifica and @ChryslerCares.

I can use my same phone and cable (OEM) on my e Golf and on my Escape with an aftermarket Carplay compatible deck without issue. Same for my wife's phone. I can say with a very high level of confidence that is is either a hardware or software issue or setting on the Pacifica. I haven't found any settings on the Pacifica nor was I told of any during my hour of phone troubleshooting.

I've got an appointment scheduled for Sauturday morning and will post what I learn. I love going to the dealer about as much as going to DMV. :frown2:

@tbier:

There is a CarPlay setting on UConnect but I think it's in the Projection Manager app. That's where I turned my CarPlay off.

@tbier

Glad that worked.

I was actually hoping that the Projection Manager would allow me to mirror video from my phone on the UConnect screen but no luck. :(
