Recorded for reference:

While driving with over 20 mile for electric range the car decides to cut all propulsion and heating. The dash reported charging system failure and to switch the car to park.
I managed to coast from the furthest left lane to the the curb lane as traffic was pretty tame so early in the morning. any other time I would be stuck in the fast lane.

I called for tow as I could no longer move the car. While waiting for tow the car reset itself (about 15min from incident) and I was able to drive to the closest dealer. The dealer noted a code for Motor A position error.
I also noticed that right before the failure the car was making a growling sound from the electric motor. It sounded like the motor was overloaded but i was going down a hill with little power usage. The growling sound was most likely while regenerating energy .

I am now without a car for the third time on this car
First time the heater failed at 9800 miles discussed here : 2021 PHEV heater failure at 9800K
2nd time was exact same issue while driving on gas motor - getting to stop sign with same issue. - no propulsion and growl and put in park messages. ....
3rd time while on HW.

Thanks for sharing. It is helpful to see what is possible in the PacHy, in case it ever happens to anyone else.

First thing to try with ANY electronic failure/lock up is to shut down, wait a bit, then restart. Glad to hear that even worked on your PacHy. Keep us updated on what you find out.
Had this happen once before. What works without waiting is to disconnect the 12V battery for about 30s. This will get u back on the road again but in my case reset the error code on dash. This time I wanted the dealer to get the codes (I am sure it did store it in the history codes but dealer didn't mention it with previous experience) This seems to be related to code P0A43 as seem by others. Usually requiring tranny replacement..... Hope that the dealer will fix my issue.

I still like my car but I don't want a Car that sits in a shop .... that's a lemon in my opinion. Probably best to figure out lemon laws in my state. Heater failure took about 4 weeks in the shop. Last time it had the same error it was in the shop for 4 days. ...

When this happened the last time the dealer updated firmware, but if the hardware is broken a firmware will not help. As proven by event 2 .... Hope the dealer can figure this out. My main gripe is that the dealers do not have loaner cars.... I am paying for my car and cant use it.

Others have reported with "Motor A position error " had to have the transaxle replaced. Several reported dealers replacing the PIM first did NOT fix the issue until the replacement of the transaxle was completed.

Glad I have had no issues with my previous 2018 and current 2021 other than the need for multiple software updates over time for the PCM, HCP and AHCP.
Had a 2019 without any issues - seems the 2021 has covid .

My battery has been goofy as well not sure if the 2 are related but it could be. The battery has been reporting 35 miles of range then it would go down by 10 miles after traveling 3 miles. Maybe motor A issues are casing this as well but not sure. ... might be a separate issue altogether.

My 21 is at dealer waiting engineers evaluation. Same exact problem as yours. 11,300 miles. Now I'm driving a Ram 1500 4x4 Hemi gas hog loaner.
Make sure you file complaint with NHTSA as they are officially investigating this issue.
My 21 has 17170 miles and has had this same issue 2 months ago - software was updated and was supposed to fix it. I did file a complaint both times. I don't have a replacement car yet . Dealers here say they are out for next 2 weeks.

Will file for rental car with Chrysler Cares..........

October 26 2022 update
Been driving a dealer car for some time - Now awaiting new transmission which the motor A and Motor B live in. That is approved for replacement.
hopefully nothing else gets broken in the process.

A small update :
I have my car back with new tranny. I am not 100% sure its fixed yet. The battery has been erratic in estimating remaining capacity since last July and I was hoping it was related to the motor A/B failure in the tranny. At this point my car has 18500 miles and the battery range has gone from 32 miles when new to sometimes as low as 20 miles in one trip. This drives me nuts. I mentioned this to my service dealer and he told me I should get a lawyer specializing in Lemon law.
I know the battery is under warranty but I don't want to deal with such crap and have my car in service more than actually driving it. Right now I am driving it and recording the battery status with my phone to document the issue.
I have tons of pictures of the erratic battery estimations that sometimes start at 38 miles when charged and go down by 4.....8 miles within the first 2 miles and keep going down as I drive sometimes providing only 20 miles of range (sometimes up to 26). BTW I have a light foot.
