My family was driving to Chicago and our 2021 Pacifica hybrid shut down on the highway with a message that said to pull over safely as the car was going to shut down. Turned off the car, turned it back on and drove to nearest service center. Happened several times on way to service center. Had to have it towed to Ziegler in Kalamazoo by roadside assistance. Ziegler says they can’t check it out until 3 weeks from now, and they have no loaners. What should I do? My wife and I are both former Chrysler employees for 20+ years.

So what are you asking ? . Did you call another dealer for service that could slide you in , what about dealership you bought it from ?
Roadside assistance only could tow to a few dealers in that area. They all had similar backlogs. I plan to call the dealer I bought it from tomorrow- at the moment I am stuck in Chicago without a rental car beyond tomorrow.

Call Chrysler corporate and escalate to a regional manager. You should be able to get a rental that Chrysler will cover with the manufacturer warranty (but often dealers dont want to do this because it can be a hassle for them to approve and reimburse the rental company). I purchased the ended and it specifically covers a rental for any warranty repair.

I called corporate and they authorized a rental for 3 days at 40 bucks a day. Cheapest rental I can find is like 70 a day for my size family. Dealer won’t even look at it for 17 days - would a regional manager be able to authorize a higher rental amount and extended number of days?

You need to get it looked at and hopefully its not the same as my experience. In our van the problem was the encoder inside one of the electric motors. That required tranny swap. It took the dealer 1 month to figure it out and another 1.5 months to perform the service.

Report your incident to the NHTSA Home | NHTSA This is a very dangerous situation for the drivers and occupants.

If you have rental car coverage through your auto insurance you may want to go that route initially and inquire if your insurance will cover the rental and then seek reimbursement from warranty. May be a long shot but some insurance companies are better than others.

First time they replaced the battery. Second time they bled the line for air bubbles. This time not sure.
See the recall post. Mine resolved after a transmission replacement, but the new transmission is no different than my original transmission, so could happen again. 2021 with 17k miles when it first occurred in July 2022. You need to report this on NHTSA.

I had the same problem. I was able to get them up to $50 a day, but that won't get you a smart car. They'll have to put a whole new transmission in the car. Sad part is, the faulty part hasn't been fixed. So, the new transmission they're putting in it, doesn't mean that it won't happen again. Please report your incident to NHTSA. That will help us collect strength for a better solution.

No one knows if new transmissions will have a permanent fix to that harness. One can expect they would.

Like mentioned multiple time here, existing transmissions can have this problem and a software fix will allow you to control the vehicle safely. There doesn't seem to have a plan to replace every existing transmission to prevent this problem, since they are not serviceable.
