Hello,

New to the forum. Just upgraded from a 2020 Pacifica touring S last week, which had the easiest uconnect 4 system, I’d pop in a dvd/Blu-ray and I’d be on my way. So far in this 2022 with the uconnect 5 it’s been nothing but a headache. I receive the message “this service is not currently available on the front seat displays” and the 2 screens on the back won’t even try to turn on. The dealerships only answer to this has been “you must set up the firetv first and then everything will work” when asked how to go ahead and do that, the dealership seems not understand. I’ve tried resetting the radio, called customer care, And nothing, my dealership says they have a radio guy and to go ahead and bring it in tomorrow. Seems like more runaround. Van is 6 days old, any help would be appreciated

Hi @Phasma22 -

This appears to be an issue with connectivity between the head unit and fire tvs.

A hard restart of all of them has cleared this issue up for me in the past.

For FireTVs, (and this also holds true if seatback screens are blank, and this is a FireTV issue) hold down select and the play/pause button for 10-15sec. This will force the FireTVs to reset. Or if you can get to settings menu, there’s a restart option there, too

For head unit, go to Apps -> Settings, scroll left menu column to “Reset” and select -> “Restart Radio”

I’ll note that after the last uconnect software update that Chrysler pushed out, the system seems to be a bit more stable, although I haven’t put in to the time to say for certain (I will say my backup camera is now more blurry though, so that update wasn’t perfect)

Thanks for the info. Our back screens had never been setup with the remotes though. Remotes were plastic wrapped without batteries in them. As far as updates goes we can connect to our home wifi and our screen shows connected, but while still connected it just continues to scan. We made an appointment next week to take to the dealership to see if a tech can solve this issue.

I was surprised when setting up my 22 Limited last week that more rear-seat-Fire-TV controls weren't available from the front/center console. AFAIK FireTV setup requires you to be in viewer (rear) seat and using the on-screen keyboard or the included remote. Tediously, you'll need to initially setup each FireTV for access to your Amazon account twice - once to get through the welcome/setup process - then again after using the factory-reset tip to enable bluray/dvd. After you factory reset, you'll need to download your apps (twice - once per FireTV) and sign-into each app (twice - once per FireTV - noticing a infuriating pattern yet?) Took me a few hours yesterday to work through the full setup.

I setup my FireTVs without the physical remotes - there's an on-screen keyboard/remote option. The physical remotes are easier to use, keep fingers off the screen, and work from the front to almost make it seem like a unified system (but not fully - see below)

^^ this sounds like you are using the "scan wifi for software update" feature in UConnect - which is not the same thing as connecting your FireTVs to wifi. It might help to think of the media system as an assembly of distinct components that don't work fully together. e.g., - FireTV is not managed through UConnect - you need to use the FireTV system to setup that component.

Were you able to get the bluray/dvd sound through the vehicle speakers? I did the w hole reset thing which brought that source back onto the FireTV but can't get the playback through the vehicle sound system.

I made sure to set the source to 'Left screen" or "right screen" no luck. Any ideas?

With a disc playing, I'm able to use the cabin speakers via the "listen" feature from the front screen. Tap "Media" > [pick the screen] playing the content > tap "listen" next to the "undefined" input label. Bold blue font indicates it's available, normal black font indicates it's selected. UI is a bit suboptimal in this case but it is what it is.

Im having the same problem. Got a 2022 Hybrid Limited around May and for some reason never tried the tablets. Thought I had to login or something to turn them on so I always said Ill figure it out another day. Was preparing the van for the newborns and decided to try them. Couldnt get them to turn on.

Took the van to the dealership and told them to guide me through it and they also couldnt get them to turn on. They brought a OBD scanner and confirmed that their is a code being thrown about a problem with the video module. I have a service appt on friday, ill keep yall updated.

PS. Other random problems: Uconnect randomly restarts while car is being driven, has happened like three times. It is also pain if you pair it to android auto, constantly disconnect and connects.

8-19-2022 update:

My pacifica has been at the dealer for 5 entire days and counting with no resolve. Took them 2 days to look at it and another 3 days to change out a module. Screens turn on now but not updating software. Luckily I was able to get a loner vehicle in the meantime. Called today and was told I’d have hang on to that loner a little while longer. Vague details on completion.

Update:

Took it to the dealership and they were able to fix it but they say that the video module is recalled and needs to be replaced (havent heard anything about a recall, i feel this may have been a miscomunication between the mechanics and front desk, service doc doesnt mention recall nor i can find anything online). The tablets now turn on and they show up in the uconnect display in the Rear Seats tab instead of "This service is not currently available". Pretty quick service turn around, book appt last week and was at the dealership for about two hours. ETA for module late september, will update back if I remember.

Service doc:

@Phasma22 that sucks. I would ask if they can give you your van back since the vehicle is still drivable and I would hope that they know by now whats the problem....

Got a call that the module arrived early december, so delayed by ~3 months. My wife was telling me why do i need to go because the tablets are working. I just said they told me they need to replace it. After taking it and wasting my whole day and ubering back and forth they told me it didnt need replacing...that it was working fine...

So in conclusion it seems the module just needed a reboot. Protip: listen to the wife.

I had a similar thing happen to me - van into the dealer twice (uber back/forth), dealer claimed the "video router" unit needed to be replaced and they were trying to get a part so I had to wait. Strangely, the screens started working after a few reboot cycles, but the dealer said they would fail again. It worked for a few weeks but the dealer was right, they failed again. Back waiting for the part. Seems like Chrysler has a low quality part in the video system @ChryslerCares can you help here?

My work around for the front screen failure is to use the remote/rear-screen to setup content for the kids on trips using the "360 fam-cam" to see the rear screen, it is far from optimal but at least it keeps them happy.
