Well, this van is nice when it works!

I plugged in the charger and one light on opposite ends of the charging indicators started blinking. I got the message "service charging system". When I tried to start the car, I could put it in gear but it went nowhere. The dashboard was lit up like a Christmas tree. I've attached some shots of the dash and my car getting towed to the dealership. I'll be interested to see what the problem is. They only have one tech who is certified to work on the car, so it may be a few days before I know what caused this.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully it is an easy fix. Did they give you a loaner? Gas or hybrid?

Just to add to this: I just got a call from Chrysler HQ regarding the problem with my van. I didn't reach out to them, they reached out to me. They wanted to let me know they're working with the dealership on the issue. I'm looking forward to hearing what they discover. Sounds like it might be another day or two before we know what the issue is.

Hi inbloom - I just got a new Pacifica Hybrid last week and hit the same problem. Did you ever figure out what caused the issue and get it resolved? Thanks!

I bought my Pacifica Hybrid on 5-13. It charges fine on the included L1 charger. I put a L2 charger in my garage and when I plug it in, I get the "Service Charging System" message as you did. I'm going to take it to a public L2 station to see if I get the same message there. It starts fine and charges fine on L1 though. Curious to hear what the root cause of your problem turns out to be.

I am also getting the "Service Charging System" message on my PacHy. It runs OK, but will not take a charge. I dropped it off at the dealer yesterday morning. Haven't heard anything yet. Chrysler Cares is involved. I will post results.

Prior to the charging problem I noticed the Malfunction Indicator Light (aka check engine light?) was on and never went off. When I plug in the charger, a single blue light flashes ten times, then goes out. Eventually both outside blue lights start flashing and at some point I get the message, "Service Charging System". Before Sunday, it was charging fine on my level 2 charger.

Another possible cause of the delivery hold...hmm.

How many people has this affected so far?

So far the reasons for a delivery hold could be:
- The random-shutoff-while-driving bug.
- The refuses to charge bug
- All of the above.

Just received this error. I have been using my Ford level 1 charger and tried to use the Chrysler level 1 charger for first time. Now I cannot charge and get Service charging system and charging fault in the app. I'll have to wait until Tuesday to get checked out.

Otherwise Seems to be working fine but i guess I am stuck using gas.

According to my tests, the vehicle does not support +12V pilot signal properly. This is when charging station goes into pause mode, or if it wants to request shut off for whatever reason (requested end of charge, end of balance, waiting for CC authorization, end of time limit etc. etc.). In this scenario, the car would pepper with messages "check external charging system", which would be ok if it weren't followed by "service the charging system" etc. etc. Usually harmless afterwards.

@dlieu, According to the owners manual, there are two errors from the "Plug Status Indicator Light": (1) “Service Charging System” and (2) “Issue Detected Check External Charging Station”. I only received error #1.

I drove the car another 200 miles home on Monday. Worked fine. Regen working fine, down a large hill I got the battery up to 1% charge. Hybrid mode works fine, the ICE shuts off when stopped or battery has sufficient charge. It is just that I cannot charge it. I tried both the Ford and Chrysler level 1 chargers, and both produced the same error. There are three ways of seeing the error. The driver's console will show the "Service Charging System", the indicator lights on the dash with blink in the first and last positions, and the Uconnect app on my phone will report charging error.

I took it into the dealer today, they tried charging it on their level 2 charger and same error. They reported that there is a fault in the high voltage system. Made it sound like a wiring issue, but maybe I am mis-remembering. Man, I hope this is an obvious fix, because it sounds pretty serious if they have to check for wire problems.

Anyway, they need special gloves to work on the high voltage wiring, and the gloves they had were out of spec, so they have to order new gloves. I will probably call tomorrow, so I can get a better time estimate.

So, I left the PacHy at the dealer and have a loaner Jeep Patriot , which is clearly not designed for tall people. I have to lean way back to see out the window. I also think it is time to look into a service plan...

@vossman77,

yeah that doesn't preclude other problems. But the non-compliance seems to be proven (i reviewed it with one of the developers of openevse at his lab). I don't know if it is just my car or all. to reproduce, put openevse into pause mode -- mine was spewing errors whether you begin plugging it into evse that is paused (and won't allow transitions to B state), or whether evse is moved to paused while the vehicle is already charging. The reaction is a little bit different in each case but the point is the vehicle clearly respond in a very noisy way to both events.

Most importantly, it doesn't begin charging when un-paused.

The dev told me that he was not aware of any other vehicle that would complain about that. (well, my spark ev would note it with just "charge interrupted" email, similarly to what would happen if somebody comes and unplugs it while it is charging).

Bottom line, i can't (or am just afraid to) use evse-based schedule because of that. which is a bit of a nuisance, since I have multiple vehicles that may be charged outside home where TOU schedule is a non-factor.
