In my past cars with dual and triple climate controls, the auto feature would turn on the AC when needed. I am currently renting a fleet version. While on auto, when I drop the temp to low, the AC does not turn on. Nor does the recirculation. Is this normal?

Also, the heated seats have to be re-engaged each time I start the van, despite the settings saying that it will come on automatically (unless I am confused by that setting). Is this normal? Again, my other car keeps the heated seat setting to whatever I had it on before I turned the car off.

Most (all?) cars intentionally do not "remember" the previous state of things like heated seats to avoid long-term issues. It is NORMAL for the heated seats to NOT be on when you start or remote-start your car even if they were on when you shut it off.

Now... there *IS* a feature with the Pacifica that WILL automatically turn-on the driver's side seat heater AND steering-wheel heater if the vehicle reads the outside temperature as 40°F or lower. There is a setting in U-Connect for this. It also will turn-on the vented seats if the temperature is above 80°F outside.

It may engage the AC without illuminating the AC light. It hasn't been warm enough here to really use the AC, but I know a lot of cars do no illuminate the light when AC is engaged through the Auto Climate Control.

Yes that is what I was thinking too. So I manually turned it on and you could tell it came on. My guess, as you alluded too, it isn't warm enough for the AC to be engaged so it just used outside air.

Not entirely true. My Mazda, both Mazda 3 and CX-9 will keep the switch on. Seats won't heat unless someone is sitting on them, but the switch is at least in standby (illuminated as in).

The Sedona I tested kept the switch on well. Everytime the car is started, the heated seats are already engaged.

The pacifica needs one to turn it on every time. Also, after 60 minutes on hi, it goes to low. After 45 minutes of that, it turns off.

My Envoy did not remember heated seats being on. My Passat had them stay on until turned off. Prefer the auto off as passengers would turn on the heated seats and they'd stay on the next time the car started. Don't know if they only operated if a person was in the seat or just stayed on even if empty.

Hence me saying "Most" and questioning "all"... I have had 4 new cars with heated seats and NONE of them persisted after restart. Friends I know with new(er) cars have all confirmed the same behaviors over the years. I am sure there are deviations, but from MY experience, I have never seen nor heard-of (until your post) of heated seats persisting "on" after restart. Having said that... my experience is far from a fraction of a percent of experience with ALL cars. :)

heated seats

This the fourth vehicle I have owned with heated seats and none have ever stayed on. The one thing I liked about my chryslers are the second row seats are heated my two gm vehicles did not have this and the heated steering wheel is also wonderful.

Yes I knew the heated feature where if cold enough and when I did remote start the heated steering wheel and seats come on below a cert temp. As for the cooled seats, yes mine are always on, but in the low setting! I want them to stay on in the high setting......

As far as the AC issue the original poster had, on the auto if set to auto, the AC is on if needed when the temp is set, does not mean the little blue ac light will come on. "You just set it and forget it". The circ button you have to control, which I like as our 16 Accord the **** circ comes on all the time and I have to turn it off.

Mine works fine on auto but it depends on the outside temp .Go into uconnect controls under climate and select max air condioning.See if it works there.
It did work... There is a delay from engaging the AC by lowering the temps (when on auto) and the AC actually kicking in. I did not wait for that. Someone mentioned the AC light does not come on when on auto climate and this is true. Thank you.

I have Ford vehicles and the climate seats only come on if auto start and temp is below or above sertain set point (they greatly updated that feature in my15 Explorer vs 12 F150 where i had issues if i came home and its 60 and next morning its below 30 it seemed like the ambient air temp did not update with vehicle off (i would get into vehicle and it would reat way hotter until it finally adjusted to right temp) thus causing heated seat no to come on)) other then that if its cold enought it turns on auto when remote started (you still have to manually turn them on when you "start" the vehile though. But as people have stated different manufacturers use different methods. you get used to it...there is no such thing as perfect car

Yeah, I had that system in the 2013 Explorer that we traded for the Pacifica. I found it annoying that the heated/cooled seats and steering wheel would only come on automatically if you used remote start. And then they would turn off as soon as you got in the car and hit the start button. I like the Chrysler system much better. You can set them to come on automatically (depending on outside temp) at every start or only with remote start.....your choice.
