So I was a little bummed our the dealer wouldn't install a roof rack on our new LX. What options are there to install an aftermarket rack, also does the rack include pre drilled holes which would allow this install? The dealer made it seemed adding the option would involve drilling holes into the roof and pulling the headliner. I'm not sure I'm buying it.

Rixos, your response sounds very promising. What "covers" are you referring to? Do Pacificas with bare roofs all have pre-drilled holes that are covered? Or what you are screwing the rack you bought into?
By they way, did you by an OEM rack or an after-market rack like Yakima or Thule? Thanks!

I was referring to the two covers on the top of the car. Two sides and black in color. All models are predrilled and ready to install roof racks. I ordered oem from amazon and paid $295 tax and shipping mg included. Took me about 45 minutes or so to install it. Very easy to install.

Oh I didn't know there are pre-drilled holes on the roof of all Pacificas. I just ran out and verified that my 2013 Dodge Caravan does not have pre-drilled holes so this isn't something Chrysler has always done. Very nice improvement to give everyone that option. Now if an after-market rack (Yakima, Thule) could use those holes it'd be perfect. I'll have to check them out the next time I see a Pacifica with a bare roof parked by me :)

Thanks for the info!

(It would be great if the whole auto industry would come up with a standard for pre-drilled holes for roof racks - similar to the way we have standard hitch sizes. Plop in either your Yakima or Thule landing pads and go. Remove them when your done!)

I will add that I like the implementation of the OEM roof rack. Its genius to have the crossbars stowed in the rack while not in use, and at least on the the models that have it standard, its nice that Chrysler included it. Honda, ever de-contenting their cars, made the roof rack dealer installed on all models (it used to be standard).

The factory installed roof rack is too small and limited. I like the flexibility of Odyssey and Sienna's roof rails for attaching after market products - especially wider cross bars. My Caravan's sliding door allows for a Yakima clip-on rack with double-wide crossbars. My inability to confirm whether the Pacifica could accept an after market rack caused me to get the Caravan instead. I often carry two canoes side-by-side on the roof, or a canoe and a kayak, or a canoe and a stack of paddleboards, or a kayak and a space case - you get the idea. Pacifica factory roof rack = can't do any of those combos :-(

Hi, we are looking at the pacifica hybrid as a replacement to our 11 year old odyssey. Love the idea of the hybrid for fuel economy and environment. That said, the OEM roof rails are light duty at best. We have three boys who are scouts and quite a yakima roof rack rig using the rail grab system to support out various outings. The system fits our odyssey and subaru rails. It would also fit the older Caravan rails. Has anyone tried or checked to see if the Caravan rails match the attach points of the Pacifica roof / rails?

The roof rails on the Pacifica are very similar to the older Chrysler ones. The load limit is listed in the manual, I think it is 150lbs. We have used them with two kayaks on the roof, a little less than 100lbs. They are solid and secure.

Typical dealer that doesn't know what they are talking about. They could have sold you a factory rack and had it installed in under an hour. Here is my experience ... I removed my roof rack and sold it to a guy local who didn't have one on his model (sorry don't know what model he has) he had all the factory mounting holes hidden under the black trim pieces that run on the out edges of your roof. To remove yours lightly pry on the inner side of the trim closest to the middle of the van . There are about 5-6 clips. You will need the rack pieces as well as the front trim pieces. Or to save a couple bucks you could probably cut your existing trim piece.
