For all the Pacifica Hybrid folks out there getting your vehicles over the next few months, are you going to buy a Mopar Vehicle Protection extended warranty, or are you passing on it? And if you are buying an extended warranty, what time/mileage and what deductible are you planning on getting?

Given that the Pacifica Hybrid is not eligible for the Maxcare Lifetime warranty, I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it at all. I could get a MVP Maxcare plan for 8 years/100K miles and a $100 deductible for $1,940 (using the DAMON2 code from Zeigler). That works out to be $388 per year for the 5 years after the 3/36 factory bumper-to-bumper. I'm thinking about it, but I'm not sure if that cost is reasonable to offset the risks of the Hybrid in a first-year model of new-to-Chrysler technology.

What are you all thinking of doing?

Was planning on getting the lifetime warranty. Since it's reportedly no longer available, I'm leaning toward not getting anything else. We tend to keep our vehicles for a long time, so we might have been able to recoup the cost of the lifetime. I'm not sure the math works out for the other plans.

They're only getting rid of the lifetime on the hybrid? Or all together?
My understanding is that they are getting rid of the lifetime on just the hybrid. Gas models can still get lifetime.

I am also not sure if it's worth it anymore. If you think about it, the Hybrid comes with 3/36 bumper to bumper, and 5/60 powertrain, and 10/150 battery. So an 8/125 extended warranty extends the bumper-to-bumper by 5 years, and the powertrain warranty by 3 years. In order to recoup on an MVP 8-year extended warranty, a catastrophic failure would need to occur in the powertrain in years 6,7,or 8, or a combination of covered components in years 4,5,6,7,or 8 (and that doesn't take the deductible into the equation, as many littler things could cost $100 or $200 per visit).

Just doesn't seem likely, particularly as compared to the lifetime warranty that won't be offered. I suspect Chrysler figures they'll make out handily on these.

I was going to get the Lifetime Max Care, but if that isn't available I won't buy anything. I really think if something is going to go majorly wrong with the hybrid, it will show up sooner than later. I'll keep the $2K and hope I don't need it.

It' would be interesting to have a follow up poll for those answering no, showing how many would've bought the Lifetime Max Care if available. That would let FCA know how many warranties they'll be losing.

gory, no indecision allowed on this poll!!

Thanks for that. I'm holding out for a 2018 Limited (or possibly a hybrid if they offer a Hybrid Limited). I will kick myself if I miss out on the lifetime warranty. The only reason I even looked into the Pacifica was because of the option of buying a lifetime warranty at a fair price.

Don't we have until the end of the 3 yr X km warranty to buy the extended?

You actually have until 4 years or 48,000 miles to buy an MVP extended warranty. BUT, the price increases after 1 year/12,000 miles. So to maximize the benefit, you're better off making that decision within the first year of ownership.

EDIT: Just noticed you are in Canada. The rules may be different in Canada, but that's the way it plays out here in the US.

I would have definitely purchased a lifetime warranty. I don't see why Chrysler won't sell lifetime for the hybrids- just exclude the battery and the other consumables, and keep lifetime for everything else. I think they are going to lose a lot of extended warranty sales by capping at 8 years. It's a shame really...

I'm surprised Chrysler decided not to do the lifetime warranty too and just exclude the battery pack. Extended warranties tend to be money makers for auto companies and dealers. Like many of the posters above I was interested planning on getting the lifetime warranty especially with FCA's reliability record. 8 years just cuts it too short to be worth it.

How can they get rid of something that never existed?
Maybe a poor choice of words, but up until a couple of days ago, you could go on Zeigler's website and price out the Maxcare Lifetime warranty, so many of us began planning for that purchase. Maybe that was premature on the part of Zeigler, but it did make it appear that Chrysler was offering that level of extended warranty on the hybrid. Obviously now we know that not to be the case- but it sure does feel like Chrysler got rid of the lifetime for the hybrid (particularly since it still will be available for all the gas Pacifica models).

According Mopar they are not offering the Lifetime warranty on the hybrid only. They will continue to offer it on the gas models.

As with most of the others commenting we do not see the value in the shorter offerings.
It is my hope that by the time the original warranty expires they change this but will have to wait and see.
