I recently heard wretched alarm noise when my lift gate was auto closing. It sounded like a dying speaker. Subsequently, my lift gate will now close (and open) without any alert or alarm sound.

At first, I though it was a blessing to be rid of the alarm. However, its so quiet that its awkward to tell of it is opening or closing when you are in the front seat or when pushing the button on the rear. I kinda miss the noise as it lets everyone know its coming down without having to tell the kids to get out of the way.

Now, I can't remember for certain if it even had one. Can somebody with an auto lift gate confirm if they have the alert or alarm when closing? opening?

Yes, there is a rear chime that can be enabled when opening/closing the rear liftgate. The chime died in my vehicle too and I just had them replace it when I was in for my 1st oil change.

Hi dmann33,

If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

I tried having the chime disabled for a little while, but I would find myself not hitting the button in the cargo area hard enough and not immediately being able to tell if the liftgate was coming down or not. I re-enabled it, but it's so darn loud! The chime in my Cherokee is the perfect volume. You can hear it, but it's not obnoxiously loud.
