Mines worked flawless for the past several months but I notice I can not drive off until my seat belt is fastened.

You have to be sure to do the following to dissengage:

Enter vehicle
Depress brake pedal
Press start button
Ensure drivers seat belt is BUCKLED
with foot still on the brake, turn transmission dial from PARK to DRIVE or REVERSE

Parking brake should auto-disengage when the above steps are performed. Seat belt buckling MUST happen BEFORE shifting the gear dial.

I also have had issues with the system not disengaging consistently despite following the order of operations. The brake is also supposed to disengage when a bit of throttle is given, but it does not always work with that either. I would say maybe half of the time it works as expected, half of the time that it does not it successfully disengages when attempting to drive off, and the other half of the half I have to manually press the button.

About the only time I need, or use, the parking brake is when we park at home. We rarely park on a hill, but our driveway where we park has a bit of a slope, so I just engage manually. I do notice though, at times, the brake fails to disengage when I go from park to reverse. I sometimes have to either put it back in park, and repeat, or just push the button. It doesn't do it enough to warrant going to the dealer, but it is a petty annoyance. And yes, we both have our belts on when that happens.

Our driveway is sloped, so I really like the feature, but I too have noticed the inconsistency. I'm not sure what it is, but I've noticed that if I try to start the car and take off in a hurry, it won't disengage. If I go slowly, it almost always works right.

I guess it could be a seatbelt timing thing, but my belt is always buckled by the time I change gears. I keep monitoring my habits and try to figure out what the pattern is.

Sometimes it even takes 2 or 3 presses of the button to turn off - like it really wants to hang on and do its thing...

I always put my seat belt on before I start the car.. habit. I did set the rental (4 days) to turn the P brake on/off automatically. I never saw a time when it did not turn it off or on for that matter.

It seems like the auto parking brake releases best when I allow the van to do its initial checks and not turn the knob too quickly. Otherwise, I end up turning it back to park and having to try again.

Yes, we have 14k miles and it used to be an occasional thing. But now, it's just about constant. The dealer's solution? Go into the settings screen and turn off the auto park brake feature. We have escalated this concern and are very disappointed in the dealer for not addressing the problem.

Also happening (which could be related) are service messages saying to replace shifter. The dealer is not fixing this either, and we've escalated this too.

These are just two of the many problems we've had.

Just a follow-up to this. When presenting to the dealer that our auto parking brake was NOT disengaging when put into gear, they said this was working as designed. However, what does it mean when the auto park brake DOES disengage automatically? Is this a defect? This makes no sense!

i found that it is all based on whether seatbelt is engaged
THIS!

It's predicated on seatbelt usage. Seat belt must be on for parking brake to disengage.

parking brake

Decided to set it to auto the other day after reading about problems with it disengaging and mine always engages when I put car in park but have not been able to get it to release by itself. I have had car over one year and always did it manually and was fine with that so I guess that is what I will keep doing. I like electronics but sometimes they do screw up like my computer does they are not reliable 100 percent of the time.

So I have tested this and there is no rhyme or reason. It will ALWAYS auto engage the brakes. It MOST of the times auto disengages the brakes. A very few percentage of the times (3 out of 10) it will not auto disengage the brakes. I have tried various things on my end with no solution. I even tried testing it when the engine was hot or cold... made no difference. Still, I will put up with this and get an always auto engage brakes solution various relying on my wife to put on the e brake as she never does.

Hi All,

Seatbelt on, foot on brake, shift from P to D, parking brake auto-disengages.

If seatbelt or foot on brake is missing when shifting, parking brake does not auto-disengage. Driver will then need to get their foot on the brake pedal and push the parking brake button to disengage.

Best,
dogbus
