Anyone know if the inflatable spare would work on the AWD (2021)? I think I read somewhere that it won’t take 17” wheels due to larger brake rotors.
I did notice the the Buyers Guide shows a "replace the vacuum with a spare tire" option for the Limited and Pinnacle. That suggests they do have an 18" spare available.Correct the awd model uses a minimum 18” rim so the spare is not compatible with it. The larger brake rotors and calipers won’t clear the smaller rim.
The only spare option I was told when we bought our vehicle was an inflation kit, could be totally wrong in how we were advised. Just sharing the experience, the vacuum is a super handy add on btw!I did notice the the Buyers Guide shows a "replace the vacuum with a spare tire" option for the Limited and Pinnacle. Ah, got it. Yeah, mine is FWD.Brakes on awd are different and also going from 17 to 18 factory tire isn’t a problem
I have added a $20 vinyl cover. View attachment 46410
1. You Sir, are a most excellent fabricator!I would like to show how I resolved my AWD spare tire issue. I bought a steel 18 x 4 mini spare wheel from a 2012 through 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This wheel clears the rear brakes. Later model Grand Cherokees offered an aluminum rim, that according to CAD does clear the brakes. Tire store put a t165/90d18 tire on it. View attachment 46400
I fabricated a small steel structure, that bolts into the quarter panel, similar to the inflatable spare structure.

I fabricated a bolt to hold the spare tire.

I created a small box that bolted to the floor of the compartment. It holds the jack and tire tools.

I purchased the inflatable spare cover and put a small hole in it.

I fabricated a wood brace that slides into the gap next to the stowed seat. The wood brace stabilizes the spare and prevents the spare from sqeeking against the interior panel.

Does spare kit work on awds in front brake clearance issue thanksBrakes on awd are different and also going from 17 to 18 factory tire isn’t a problem
There are 3 reasons for the spare tire delete. All of these occupy the area the spare tire would normally sit.I was just about to order a 22 Pinnacle AWD and I noticed on the Standard Features list a "Spare Tire Delete". I thought that was ridiculous. I guess I'm not the only one.

1. Storage shelfs ( I have this option in mine)
2. Stow-N-Vac
3. The Plugin Hybrid uses this area for the main 12v. battery
Some people buy the inflatable tire kit and toss it the 2nd row stow-n-go storage area.
