2018 PHEV. Paired iPhone X through Bluetooth. Phone calls work fine. Playing music works fine (from phone through speakers). The problem is that every other sound the phone makes seems to just disappear. For example, the little beep I get when I get a text message. When I'm paired (which is essentially anytime I'm in the car), it not only doesn't play thorough the car audio, it also doesn't play through the phone. It's just gone.
That's annoying, but not the end of the world. The really bad thing is that things like the Apple or Google navigation audio directions also just disappear. That SUPER sucks.

So what am I doing wrong? Ideally I'd prefer to hear things through the car speakers, but I'd accept an option to play the phone audio and alerts through the phone (so long as the phone calling stuff still works through the car speakers/microphone).

Incidentally, if I connect via CarPlay, everything seems to work as expected. All audio goes through the car speakers just fine. However I find CarPlay to be very inconvenient and leads me to leaving my phone in the car nearly 100% of the time, so I basically never use it.
