Both my wife and I have noticed that on several occasions brakes seemed to be misbehaving. It's sort of hard to explain. It feels like you press the brake pedal all the way, but that's not enough and the car keeps rolling until all of a sudden the pedal gives and you jerk to a stop a few feet further than normal/expected. Anyone else noticed anything similar?
I suspect it might be due to the transition between regen braking to brake pads, but it's only an intermittent issue, so not much we can do yet.

We had the same problem with our 1st gen Volt. The service department had it for a month trying to figure out what was wrong with the brakes. Chevy finally replaced the brake pressure modulator valve & we didn't have any problems after that.

I actually thought this was normal. I test drove a Ford Escape Hybrid a few years back and the brakes felt exactly the same. My Prius on the other hand does not feel like this. I just chalked it up to American engineering. Now I am wondering if I should bring it in for a check!

I've experienced something similar on occasion, when coming to a stop trying to park. "Slid" further than where I expected to stop by a few feet. Luckily I only scraped the underside of my front bumper on the concrete parking block. It was a weird sensation as described above, like the brakes weren't working.

Hi lurazov,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

well, i left the car at the dealership for an indeterminate amount of time because of the recall, and complained about this braking issue. I have very little hope it will get me anywhere since it's intermittent and when I mentioned the brake pressure modulator the guy checking me in just brushed it off and said it doesn't matter if it was on a chevy.

Ya, I still see this phenomenon on occasion and it's not just when I'm turning either. I think it will be difficult to reproduce so I'm wondering whether there's something I can tell the dealership or something they know about. I really don't want to waste my time taking it in if they won't do anything because they can't reproduce the issue.

Anyone who has hit this problem..

For the "extra 5 feet to stop at slow speeds" does this mean at constant brake pressure you went farther than expected (which is sorta ok) ?

Or do you mean when you noticed it was not stopping and stood on the brake, but it still kept going (which would be really really bad, like drive through the garage into the house bad) ?

it wasnt braking as hard as it use to, took me 2 seconds to realize and then applied strong pressure which stopped the car right away. Happened to me twice only in the first week of delivery, knock on wood since then a month later

For me I would describe the feeling as when a car slips/slides on ice. You think you're slowing down and stopping, and then whoa, you go a little further, panic and then apply greater brake pressure. I've scraped the bottom of the front on a curb, but I'm not worried about hitting the garage or another car when driving since usually I don't try to zoom up and kiss the car in front of me. I always leave half a car length at least.

sounds like we might have another recall here... if anyone can prove to the techs that this is actually happening. The 2 times I remember this happening to me (it happened quite a few more, it just wasn't dangerous) I overshot the parking attendant window by a few feet (the lady probably thought i just learned to drive or something), and the second time was when I switched lanes and a bimmer stopped in front of me in the new lane. Both times i felt like I was pressing the brake as far as it will reasonably go at 4 mph, then something switched and my foot went into the floor jerking the car to a stop.

This is not always happening; it happens only at low speed from time to time ... I cannot pin point to the exact scenario that triggers the behavior but will monitor it for the next few days to see if I can capture that. It makes you loose confidence in the driving this car and is indeed dangerous ... To me this is more serious and dangerous that the diode problem.

I just took delivery of my 2018 Hybrid Limited two days ago. I ordered it Mid-October. The brakes did exactly what is described in the forum 3 times today. The first was in the school parking lot while I was dropping off my daughter. It made my heart skip a few beats... I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me. Then it happened two more times on my short 3 mile drive to work. The brake is applied and the vehicle starts slowing down; then it seems like the brakes quit working. It was very unsettling. I pressed down hard(er) on the brakes and they engaged.
