Has anyone else noticed brake noise coming from the front driver wheel? It's not an irregular noise, i can just very clearly hear the pad rubbing on the rotor when i have my foot on the brake. If its a normal noise on all Pacifica's I'm just very surprised since I've never hear this on any of my previous vehicles, even my 1985 Bronco.

brakes

Upon backing out of the garage in the morning I hear a chatter when releasing the brake pedal seems to be coming from front brakes. All day long it seems to be fine. Dont know if it does it going forward.

I have the noise also dealer says this is normal and not a safety issue. My Pacifica has less than 4K miles. Noise is prevalent under very light braking and when slowing to a stop.

brakes

I found out mine was caused from car wash wax after I drive it a day or two it goes away,Also sometimes you can get a small pebble from the road between your backing plate and rotor usually it goes away in a couple of days.

mine too, a light shhhhh sound upon light breaking only, it's not physical brake noise cause i cant hear it from outside on a quiet street at night with the windows open, to faint to be the abs pump, and i dont have a hybrid so it cant be regenerative breaking, ii thought it could be electrical noise from the led brake lights with the Active noise cancellation system the car has(notice the microphones in the ceiling over the driver and passer seats), but why does it stop when the car stops

This shhhh noise is exactly what I'm talking about. I only hear it when braking at a low speed. Like right before coming to a stop.

Yes, this is the noise I can hear on my Pacifica, and I believe all Pacificas make this brake noise. It is faint, but clear, when braking at low speeds. Not a "screeching" sound typical of worn pads on rotors, nor is there any harmonic vibration. I am quite sure it's normal, and I suspect it's caused by the type of material in the pads. It doesn't bother me too much, especially since the sound is not nearly as annoying as squeaky pads/rotors.

Hi vdubpower,

We'd recommend visiting your local dealership for further diagnosis, since it happens every time Adaptive Cruise Control is on they should be able to duplicate it. You could also offer to go for a test drive with a service technician or advisor so you can demonstrate the conditions when the noise happens. Feel free to PM our page with your VIN if you need assistance!

I have a Pac Hybrid and ditto for the same sounds. I would say I hear it more when first starting out in the morning. It seems common regardless of trim.

if the dealer tells u this is normal - they are lying - cause in my neighborhood there are a gzillion pacificas, three on my block alone, and i drove a few and they dont make the sound, it sounds like the electric vacuum pump for the power breaks which is in that area, that goes off when the vehicle speed sensor value goes to 0, for many years now, the Vehicle Speed Sensor, "VSS" signal (created by a hall-effect transducer on the transmission) gets fed around to all the computers including the speedometer, and in this case i think it tells the pump when to stop,

the weird noises the car makes when auto-following the car head in start stop traffic with adaptive cruise - those are normal, and using a different breaking circuit, and the transmission is doing rapid down-shifts so lots of noise making mechanical things are happening behind the scenes

by the way : there is a dangerous bug in adaptive cruise - if ur tracking a vehicle in front and u get cut off the computer picks that up perfectly OK, and if the vehicle right in front leaves ur lane it will track the next one perfectly, but only as long as its moving, if its stopped, it will plow right into it!!! even though if u were tracking and it stopped u would stop also , a really dumb bug!!!!

One of the mods should post a sticky with a collection of these safety issues: e.g. hybrid starting the engine while pre-conditioning in the garage, stow-n-go assist button issue, etc.

I believe pretty much no acc systems will pick up a stopped vehicle when the car being tracked leaves your lane. Our bmw explicitly stated that in the manual but I don't remember reading that in the Pacifica manual. For example : https://electrek.co/2016/05/26/tesla-model-s-crash-autopilot-video/ . Acc is meant to lock onto a car and follow it at a safe distance and that's it. It's not a "stupid bug".

i will pick up a vehicle moving 1mph, i think i figured out why, cause it has to ignore stationary object otherwise it will freek when u r going around turns and stationary object appear to be rapidly approaching, this will have to wait until real self driving cars can actually see and discern my system is not that sophisticated,

in the end they resurfaced the rotors which cut it down a lot but not completely, i intend to buy my own super high quality rotors as these appear to be junk, they has distortions, and dont want my life depending on them

The brake components on the Pacifica are sourced from Brembo (seriously). They are widely regarded as really good by reviewers & owners alike. Sounds like you got some bad parts. Insisting on replacement rather than resurfacing is a reasonable request.

I am experiencing a similar issue - the whooshing sound when braking at a stop sign/stop light. I have about 1100 miles on the Pacifica (Touring L) and never had the issue until this week. It started immediately after I put the parking brake on (for the first time that I can recall). I wonder if the parking brake hasn't completely released and is causing the noise somehow?

Would seem strange if this is the case as I can't hear the noise other than when braking but the first time application of the parking brake and this noise suddenly appearing seems too proximate for the two events not to be related.
