So last Tuesday I bought a 2018 Hybrid Limited. Drive great. Until today. This morning when I left the house, the check engine light was on. Called the dealership. They said it was “probably just moisture in the line” and that they could see me next Thursday (a week later). Went to work. Came out of work about 6 hours later, car won’t start. Doesn’t deter key fob. Brake pushes back against my foot when trying to start car. Finally get car to start then it has warning on screen “service charging system.” Then all kinds of crazy stuff starts happening- wipers going on their own, lights flashing, doors won’t open, etc.
Called the dealership (my salesperson). He brought me a loaner car and had to tow my brand new $48,000 car to the dealership.
Question- anyone else had this issue? I just don’t know how I’ll feel safe ever driving this vehicle ?

Actually no. Dealership called me this morning. During the night the car drove itself into another car on their lot and crashed both of them. Possessed maybe? I’ve never heard of anything so crazy. Meeting with them on Monday to discuss what on earth to do now ?

Me either. It takes a lot to get a car out of PARK.
They couldn't believe it either. They had to go back and review security camera footage from overnight to see what happened. Guess it doesn't take much to get the 2018 Pacifica Hybrid out of Park. You can't make this stuff up. The dealer is at a loss that this even happened. Can't imagine how that call went to the person whose car my car destroyed.

Did YOU see the footage? I could certainly buy that somebody at the dealer got boozed up, jumped in the car, and drove it into another one. Otherwise, it's a bit far fetched.

Did it drove into the other car from going forward? Or did it back up into the other car?

I'm wondering if they didn't turn off the car, it was on a small incline, hill start assist (hsa) was holding the car. But the car finally ran out of 12v and shutdown, disabling the hsa and started rolling backward into the other car. Just my speculation

I haven’t seen the footage but plan to ask to see it on Monday...I’ve never seen a vehicle act as crazy as this van was acting on friday before it was towed, so nothing would surprise me at the point
When the battery is initially connected, Chrysler has the wipers jog a little, and the headlights flash. That's to let workers know the vehicle is live. So the battery, cable, loose fuse, etc. are all likely culprits.

If they left it in gear on a slope, gravity wins.

I heard a lot of crazy stories, but this one beats all of them. I would try to get the possessed van replaced. How serious is the damage?
One rational explanation would be that the transmission lock didn't engage due to the electrical problem. If the dealer's lot is flat it could go unnoticed. A strong wind in the night could get the van moving.

No one at the dealership can seem to figure out what happened so they null and voided the transaction and I walked away. I’ll never buy a Pacifica again. I had a gas one before this one and it had constant issues, thus the trade in before warranty expired. But this issue takes the cake.
Went and bought a completely different vehicle today.
After reading through these forums, I don’t know why anyone would chance it with the Pacifica, specifically the Hybrid. Seems like the NHTSA should look into these issues ASAP.

AdrianaHybrid18

I recently had a similar experience in my 2018 PacHy. I reached out to you via pm if you don’t mind I have a couple questions. Thanks.

My experience is viewable at this link:

This is nuts. I haven't even received my 2019 Hybrid and I am already starting to regret ordering it. My kids play in the driveway all the time, and the fact that I now have to worry about a parked van rolling onto them is deeply disturbing. I'm pretty sure Sesame Street would be a bit reluctant to continue being supported by a car that may, from time to time, squish its primary audience.

Please someone compile all the threads (or users) that have had similar issues (parking brake, van rolling) into a single thread. I can count 4 threads off hand, probably more. I fear that Chrysler is going to do nothing to address the underlying issue until there is an injury or worse related to this malfunction.

I also find it hard to believe the dead battery issues frequently described here are unrelated to this.
