Update: I am just a few miles short of 40K! With the exception of a defective super console (replaced under warranty) the Pacifica has been absolutely wonderful to drive; however I do have one concern that is a little troublesome and yet to be diagnosed by the dealer (scheduled appt later this week).

Has anyone experienced when breaking hard, after coming to a complete stop, a quick audible thump in the rear as if either the transmission is disengaging or the rear breaks are releasing quickly and reengaging?

It is loud and can be felt. This primarily happens on straight line quick breaking.

It's very odd and hard to describe, but THUMP accurately describes the feeling and noise. Just odd....

Loosened axle or a warped rotor?

WOW, 40K on a vehicle that's only been on the market for roughly 1 year, and that may not even be your situation, perhaps less. Your comments are a great testimony to the Pacifica up to this point, aside from the loud "thump", and as Bluesfox stated could be a warped rotor. Hope it's nothing major, and they have you back on the road so you can keep rolling up those miles, you'll be ready to trade for an 18 in a few months.

Any update on this? Mine is doing the same, only I have 5,000 miles and I've had it for over 7 months. I first noticed it in stop and go traffic, I've unfortunately had nothing but problems and every time I take the van in they can't replicate the issue. It's worrisome, and I don't know what else to do to get it fixed. It almost feels like a skid, thump is a good word though.

Mine does this as well and has since about 3k mi. A thump sound is what I would say it is too. Come to a stop, then 'thump' about 1 second later. It's not consistent but I notice it a few times a week.
