Any fellow Canadians out there who have looked into/purchased an Extended Warranty for their Pacifica?

I'm about to take delivery of our factory ordered unit next week, and have just started looking into costs / benefits / gotchas etc.

Thanks in advance

I will be...

Funny thing. I purchased a pre-owned BMW 540i from a Chrysler dealership a few years ago. I purchased the Chryslers warranty (yep, Chrysler). I knew full well the things that were going to go wrong like window regulators, water cooled alternator, etc. Needless to say, got much more than full return on investment. They never batted an eye as they simply farmed out the work to the certified BMW mech across the street.

So yes, I'll be buying the Mopar warranty. Was thinking about the 7/160k with $100 deductable, but that was before the hybrid came into view. Will likely lease the hybrid and go for the 5/120k $0 deductable.

Anybody have any luck getting a deal on extended warranty in Canada? I don't think it's like the US, where you can get the insurance from different companies. Heck, I doubt that there will be many options on the types of insurance. What are people getting and how much is it costing you?

Hi gory. I had posted this previously in a different thread, but may help (or not!)

As an aside, did anyone else receive quotes for extended warranties? I'm in total shock about what they quoted me. So much so, I just emailed the finance specialist asking if an error was made on the calculations. For the top coverage, which includes 7 year/160k km and a bunch of other stuff that I don't care about, they show my bi-weekly payment rising by $90 (based on an 84 month schedule) which results in a charge of over $16,000 by the time the loan is up! That's 30% of the vehicle cost.

Even the so called "economy" option which is 5 year 100,000 km comprehensive and ECC module for rust protection (scam) increases the payment by almost $30, which after 182 payments is something like $5200. That's totally unacceptable.

I await the dealer to email back. I'm hoping that was just an error, as she was quite busy at the time when we were finalizing our deal.

Ok, so the dealer responded indicating that those numbers are definitely not correct. They are looking into that.

In the meantime, they did say that the 7yr/160 000 km comprehensive is $3805 + tax while the 5yr/100 000 km is $1975 + tax.

FWIW

Ya, I was hoping for some lifetime thing. After 7 years then I'm guessing the car will be worth almost nothing because of all the anticipated repairs coming up. Still worth getting the 7 though. Thanks for the updates.

My understanding is all dealerships can sell you the warranty and they decide how much markup they want to charge. I emailed a bunch of dealerships and found the provinces with no provincial sales tax gave the best rates. I got the 7 year 160k mopar 410 gold no deductible for under 3k (tax in) from crowfootdodge. Straight forward transaction and they will need your insurance registration and vin number. Some dealerships were offering over 6k and telling me that was a “deal”. Must be done within first month of purchase under a certain number of mileage for best rate.
