Hard to believe this . . someone tell me I'm wrong . . .please.

On a short trip in our new LTD today, I (the passenger) tried to input the geo coordinates of where we were going. Guess what? The navi refuses to accept "screen commands" while in motion. Really? I mean - really? Every destination has to be put in while wasting gas (and time) idling in the driveway?

I can understand FCA not wanting *driver*s to do it while moving (I guess they assume flipping through Sirius channels, setting cruise controls, etc less distracting), but really? I as a passenger can't do it?

Someone tell me I just don't understand thi s. . .

That's correct. Unfortunately it will not work with the Pacifica in motion. There are a couple of aftermarket solutions that allow you to change that behavior but they are pricey. The voice recognition works well for text messaging and for navigation for us. Have you tried it?

Well, I lost a bet with my wife over this subject the other day. Turns out you can't use the keyboard while moving to enter street, city, state, zip, etc. but you CAN enter screen commands to the NAV to select destinations ... from lists ... like 'points of interests (e.g. hospital, police station...)' or 'previously entered destinations' or "go home" or 'favorites' or 'place on a map'.

This speed lock is for the driver's safety. Trying to touch operate the keyboard screen while driving is like text messaging while driving which is a major distraction since you need to take your eyes off the road. If they left this enabled out of the factory, I'm sure people would begin passing the blame onto the manufacturer if they are ticketed (or even worse get into an accident) for using the screen keypad while driving. So, for the factory to protect themselves, they need to cut us off at the knees and disable it entirely to prevent a potential PR nightmare and class action suits.

As someone else suggested, there are solutions out there that either tricks the system or disables the speed lock program such that they can use the keyboard while driving.

With that said, I wish they have a mechanism that at least disables it when it depends someone in the front passenger seat since at times it's my passenger that's helping me out entering stuff. At the same token, my guess is people would easily defeat the driver only speed lock by placing an object with just enough weight onto the passenger seat, attach the seatbelt and trick the system to think there is a passenger.

UCONNECT AIR V2

This might unlock what you are looking for. You can find it for less from other vendors. Also doesn't list Pacifica so you might want to verify functionality with manufacturer of the product.

Here's another one.

Great write up on the Jeep forums on the benefits of both.

Here is an updated customtronix RAX Jailbreaker Connect with mirrorcast built in. Plug and play. $365 shipped with forum discount VAT does not apply to US orders.

I use the RAX Jailbreaker software in my Cherokee and it works great. I'm working with Customtronix on a beta test for the Pacifica, but the version they initially sent me was older than my stock Uconnect version, so they're working on updating it. I'll report back once I get the right version to test.

Nice to hear. I think I'll go with the Jailbreaker Connect once I hear back on your results. Casting is a must for me.

PacifcaLimited is a huge fan of Waze...I guess he rubbed off on me. I would definitely like to cast on mine but don't understand if I give up other functions while casting like radio, etc.

Thanks for being the first to test this. I'm less interested in the speedlock disabling feature and more interested in how they are coding the features. I ask because there are some features I want to code, but given I'm knew to Chrysler, trying to research online for how the system is cracked for self coding has been a challenge. I'm sure these guys wouldn't want to share their methods given it's their means to make money; however, I'd be interested to see what else these guys can get the car to do such as automatic folding/unfolding mirrors when the doors are locked/unlocked via keyfob or keyless lock/unlock. I have been faithful to BMW for a couple decades and have coded all my BMWs to unlock much desired features that is already available on the vehicle almost globally, but is crippled in the US by the factory due to safety concerns (US is a highly litigious country). I've seen on customtronix site that they prefer not to create custom coded USB sticks, but maybe if it's possible to do and enough of us ask, maybe they'll go ahead and release a specific version for us Pacifica owners.

This is a quote from the guy that did a write up in the Jeep forums using a separate Miracast module...

"4. If you connect an auxillary A/V source, the audio and video are accessed separately. So you can just look at the video, but not change your audio source. If you want the audio corresponding to the video (say you are watching a movie from your phone while parked), you select the auxiliary audio source in the Uconnect menu."

I'm assuming you should be able to cast Waze and listen to audio through radio and xm. I might have to be a guinea pig with their own version of Miracast.

Unlocking other features would be great as well. As mentioned above with folding mirrors at lock/unlock of vehicle, 360 camera button speed override to be viewed at any speed, and override the need to be in park to operate tailgate and sliding doors etc. overhead buttons take priority over gear shifter.

Some hopeful updates to uconnect has us waiting to see what MY2018 car release will have. If this "jailbreak" can open up certain features that would allow us to buy the vehicle much sooner.

Yeah, I was in communication with them for over a year about a custom version that would fix some specific bugs in the Cherokee, but they finally said that they just don't have time to do anything custom. They're a small team, so I don't see that changing any time soon.

I honestly have no idea how they get around the security checks built into the Uconnect system. Any changes I've tried to make get met with a checksum failure. And like you said, it's how they make money so they're not going to share their secret.

The 360 camera working while driving should definitely work with the RAX software as long as Chrysler doesn't kill power to the cameras at a certain speed (which they might). There will also be a "park pro" feature that activates the front camera automatically when you drive below a certain speed. The other features you mention would be nice, but they won't be included in the RAX software, unfortunately.

On a side note, I was somehow able to confuse our UConnect system yesterday by playing with the controls for the UConnect Theater and then turning on the 360 camera. I managed to get the screen stuck with the 360 camera view on, so we were driving around at 45 mph with the front camera view showing.. :smile2:

I finally managed to use the Screen Off button to get it out of the mode, but it was amusing for a while. Note that this was without any of the additional devices mentioned here..

You'd still need a passenger to do this: but if you really want a new destination on the Uconnect navigation, you can use the Send and Go feature from the Uconnect app on your phone. Once you've 'sent' the address a dialog will pop up on the center screen asking if you want to go to the new destination. This is all from experience with my Jeeps that have a similar system. And in my past experience, this only worked some of the time, and when it did, there was up to a 3 minute delay before the new address would get to the car's Uconnect.

Thanks again for your time, effort, and contributions in getting them to get at least some things unlocked with their RAX jailbreaker. Hopefully they figure it out for you soon and even more so I do hope they're treating you proper by giving the solution to either for free or at a major discount for all your assistance towards them. I'm on board to still buy it once issues are resolved.
