I have a dealer that insists all "new car dealers" have dealer installed accessories. This doesn't sound right to me as I've purchased cars before without any dealer installed accessories.

I figured I check here though since it's been a few years since I've bought a car.

They're offering me "for free" a package they're valuing at roughly $2500. It appears to be a pulsing brake light (I hate seeing those) and nitrogen filled tires. This sounds like a bad joke, right?

I would run to another dealer. This one is shady and is lying to you.

Mine came with no dealer installed accessories. I warned them in writing not to go down that road. Dealer add-ons just add to the magician's shell game that salesman use to hide where you are actually overpaying. This one is a "for free" upgrade because that is exactly what it is worth...$0.00 but they will keep bringing up the $2500 funny money you saved. This dealer actually did you a favor because now you can cross them off your list. Next!

Some people swear by nitrogen filled tires, others think it's just a "magic beans" scam. I am pretty sure it isn't worth $2500.

Since the salesman probably mentioned the advantages of nitrogen (there are some but very slight), here's a well known car expert with the other side of the argument. His language is a little "salty" but he is highly entertaining.

Dealers that add these kind of features put an "ADP" sticker on the window. This sticker shows the extra cost of dealer installed items like Paint Protection, LoJack etc.....
Here is a hint "ADP" is the company that makes the stickers. "ADP" stands for "Additional Dealer Profit".

Actually, despite frequently mentioning they were giving me ~$2500 in "free" dealer installed accessories. They never actually told me what it was. That's a red flag right there.
I think I know because when I was at the dealer, they had stickers on the cars showing the pulsing brake light and nitrogen tire fill.

I might as well name names. This is Alhambra Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Unfortunately, they're the closest to my home. So I'll need to find another place for service once (if) I get a van.

I have to wonder if the dealers / sales people are just dumb or think your dumb. A statement like "all new car dealers have dealer installed accessories" is easily dis-proven and he can't know what my previous car buying experiences are.

There's Hanlon's razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

A scam, a way to make more profit. Run!!!

I helped my neighbor buy her 3rd Camry ( her trade was her 2000 Camry), she keeps them for years. She wanted a basic Camry, and this particular dealer tried to say all of their cars came with the tint, pin stripe, door edge protection, pulsing rear brake, trunk liner and nitrogen filled tires for 1200.00. I told him no way......they finally took all of that price off except 100.00. I told him that was fair for all of those items.

Honda does the exact same, as soon as the cars hit the dealers they do all these adds. I told the gm on my accord EX-L nav and sensi the price I would pay which was invoice - 1/2 of the holdback of 1100.00. The guy said no chance and before I hit the unlock button to my car to leave the salesman came out and said they would do it. Go check out NADA and build a 2017 Honda Accord and you will see they have like 30 diff dealer packaged options... so, don't let the dealer try and make a ton on you. Remember they get dealer incentives on each car they sell. My Pacifica was ordered and so I still got the dealer to pinstripe, tint and interior protection mats for free.

On the plus side, a sales guy at this dealer basically told me to take the deal that I did. He claimed to not believe that deal would not have any dealer installed accessories.

It did not and I replied to the follow up emails from this dealer informing them I took their advice and bought the car with no dealer installed accessories.
