The wifi hotspot of the van costs money. It's powered by AT&T but since you have a 2018 it requires a bunch of updates(there are like 4-5 at this point) so you would have to find out what version your on first to know how high you need to go. The dealer will have to do all the updates though or swap the radio. I'd highly suggest you get them to do it all as soon as possible because at least my dealer charges 50$ PER UPDATE so 5x50$=250.. super stupid tbh. Anyways if you just want to do a mira cast that is in your projection settings.

So the hotspot settings are separate from the mirror cast projection. Got it.

That means I can leave the hotspot off while turning on the projection wifi. I have a feeling I need software updates for the mirror cast as well. Or possibly a module reset or replacement.

Does the mirror cast wifi have a place to set the password, or a default password? I found a place in the projection settings to rename it, but no place to put in a password. The renaming doesn't work, but I do see a wifi connection (with some sort of default name) appear when I check the "on" box. When I try to connect my phone to it, it asks for a password.

Or am I going about this all wrong? Do I have to start the video on my phone, then hit the "mirror cast button" on my phone, and THEN select the van's wireless? I kinda remember doing it that way with a TV once or twice.
Honestly, I've never used the miracast system a single time. The wifi hotspot is for access to the internet and I guess it's like a router as well but I don't think the other clients interact with each other. I think you just turn on projection and tell your phone to mirror to it. Like mine is samsung so it's technically samsung dex. I don't believe I've ever seen a password on miracast before because your supposed to agree on the screen to allow for it to project. Anyone successfully used Miracast yet? <- this link discusses it

I actually just use a roku with plex and stuff or a chrome cast and use my phone's hotspot data since I have 50 gb and honestly never burned through all 50 even on a 7+ day trip.
