What happens if the key fob is left outside the vehicle and you start driving away? Will the vehicle shut off at some point? Has anyone tried to do this? Is there a warning? At what distance does it happen?

Oh, yeah. It will let you drive off without the key FOB. You will see a message continuously displayed in the Driver Information Display (DID) that says "KEY FOB HAS LEFT THE VEHICLE". I have test driven several miles that way. Of course, if you shut off the engine then you won't be able to restart it.

Which brings up another question.........can you leave the key fob in the vehicle?
I had a Toyota Camry and you could not leave the fob in the car......they would keep getting the signals and it would drain the fob battery.

I park the cars in my locked garage overnight and usually leave the keys in them.

I remember when we had our Jeep, we couldn't lock the vehicle if the fob was inside, at least not until after five tries, then it would go ahead and lock it regardless. Then I guess I have to ask, how do you get it open again without a second fob? I guess not...

I found this...

Preventing Inadvertent Locking Of Key Fob In Vehicle (FOBIK-Safe)
To minimize the possibility of unintentionally locking a
key fob inside your vehicle, the Passive Entry system is
equipped with an automatic door unlock feature which
will function if the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
FOBIK-Safe only executes in vehicles with Passive Entry.
There are three situations that trigger a FOBIK-Safe search
in any Passive Entry vehicle:
• A lock request is made by a valid key fob while a door is open.
• A lock request is made by the Passive Entry door handle while a door is open.
• A lock request is made by the door panel switch while the door is open.
When any of these situations occur, after all open doors are
shut, the FOBIK-Safe search will be executed. If it finds a
key fob inside the car, and it does not find any key fob
outside the car, then the car will unlock and alert the
customer.
NOTE: The vehicle will only unlock the doors when a valid
key fob is detected inside the vehicle, and no valid key fob
is detected outside the vehicle. The vehicle will not unlock
the doors when any of the following conditions are met:
• The doors are manually locked using the door lock knobs.
• There is a valid key fob outside the vehicle and within
5 ft (1.5 m) of either Passive Entry door handle.
• Three attempts are made to lock the doors using the
door panel switch and then close the doors.

it will ding contantly when the fob is not in the car, we did this when i dropped my wife off at a grocery store and I parked the car, she has the key fob and it constantly made that ding sound which is very very very very annoying lmao

Hey mine doesn't ding! I expected it to (my Hyundai certainly does) but my dinger must be broken or disabled somehow.

Sorry to revive this thread but on my Pac Hybrid, if I leave the engine on and go outside the vehicle, it will sound the horn 3 times. Is there a way to disable this alert and make it more of a "ding" sound? It's super sensitive...I just basically leave the car and close the door and it will go off.

Non hybrids don't do any warning which is very dangerous. It will chime inside and give a dash warning which is of zero value if no one is in the car. ALL MODELS SHOULD HONK AND FLASH IF THE FOB LEAVES THE CAR WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. ChryslerCares, I hope you read this.

Toyota and Ford are part of a class action for deaths fro CO poisoning when cars are left running in garages without any warning or auto shut off. If a car is left running in park for more than 30 min, it should auto shut off. This is simple software programming.

No horn honks please. Remove the horn honk from the door lock function and replace it with beeps. The horn is way to loud and disruptive. A rapid triple beep would suffice sort of like the beeps you get from the sliding door or tailgate opening. Most alarm system or vehicle warning systems in my opinion should not use the horn. People can generally hear beeps just fine for close to the vehicle warnings. I don't need the loud freaking horn going off all the time.

Especially with small kids or in parking garages.

The new 2018 odyssey has the beeping that I am talking about when you leave the car running and remove the keyfob. There are videos online showing this or I can put a link for those interested. Being able to co took the volume of all the beeps and stuff is important to me and my family and would be nice to have on the Pacifica.

We addressed this in another thread, but just so you're aware, we do take this type of feedback and send it back to the brand--this specific complaint has been forwarded already.

I love the fact that you are active on this forum and indeed it shows that Chrysler cares. Thanks for the reply and the redundancy is purposeful because not all viewers view all threads. Thanks again.

Hello...not sure if this forum is still active. I have a 2017 pacifica and it recently started making me push the fob into the starter to start the engine. Never used to have to do that. Kind of annoying. Also, it has been saying that the fob has left the vehicle (beeping alarm) when I do drop offs or pick up with the kids. Also annoying because the fob hasn't moved from my cup holder. Is it the battery? TIA

Sounds like the fob battery. What about your other fob(s)? Does it unlock the doors? If the other fobs misbehave and it does unlock the door, the fob detector inside the van may have failed.

That does sound like the fob battery. It is the very common CR2032,

Proximity fob batteries will run down much faster than the simple remote batteries. They are constantly running a sensor.

Check this page for instructions..

I am sorry to hear about the condition of your dinger and I hope that you make a full recovery.

Ha, finally! I set that spike on 8/19/2016 and it's just been hanging there.
Sadly, the Pacifica's dinger still doesn't work though... ;)

We're, as a group, kinda slow on the uptake. But two and a half years might be a record. :wink2:
