Engine Break-in for Towing

Hi,
Just wanted to share... The User Guide says there isn't a break in period... but the Owner's manual says this about a break in period FOR TOWING:

-- Do not tow a trailer at all during the first 500 miles (805 km) the new vehicle is driven. The engine, axle or other parts could be damaged.
-- Then, during the first 500 miles (805 km) that a trailer is towed, do not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h) and do not make starts at full throttle. This helps the engine and other parts of the vehicle wear in at the heavier loads.

Pretty sad for me, as I am on 150 Miles and I was going to grab family at the airport and was going to take a trailer with me to put the luggage in.

That seems a bit extreme but the got to put a line in the sand somewhere. I can understand your worry. I would think a light and small trailer for luggage would be ok. The manual is probably referring to towing large weights of maybe 1000 lbs or more. So most likely won't be an issue for a couple bags... unless your family travels heavy with a ton of bags all at or over 50 lbs each.

I now wonder if you used a hitch basket in the rear (non trailer) would the concerns be the same. Some hitch baskets can support 500lbs. That is good bit of luggage.
