Prior to delivery, I've been reading the manuals for the 2017 Pacifica. The section on engine break-in doesn't make sense to me. I know they've been using the same language for years in all their vehicles.

It's the section that says; "Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km). After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or 55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable."

Shouldn't it say, "During the initial 60 miles..."? Wouldn't you want to limit the speed during the first 60 miles, rather than after?

What am I missing here? Can someone enlighten me?

I think your interpretation sounds the most reasonable. Someone should contact Chrysler and correct them on the typo.

I sent an email to Chrysler last week about this issue. A customer service rep answered, saying my concern was being passed on to those people responsible for writing the manuals. I didn't receive an acknowledgement that my interpretation was correct or not.

It's a modern day engine and it is in a van. Just drive it as you would another van around town or on the highway. As long as your not bouncing off the rev limiter their is no special break in this engine will need.

Yeah, as I recall when you buy a sports car they say "drive it for 500 miles like it's a minivan, then driver er like you stole er". Haha

It all comes down to who you talk to some swear by breaking in modern engines in by running them WOT and hard. But either way this is no special engine just drive it as you would.
