Engine code reader

My 2019 hybrid check engine light is on, I plugged in an ‘old’ OBDII code reader, it said 2 fault code found, but could not retrieve the code. Has anyone successfully read the engine code out using an OBDII code reader? If so, would you mind to share the model? Hope it is something I can purchase from Amazon :) .
Thanks a lot!

You'll need something like the obdlink mx+ or bluedriver to be able to read the enhanced codes. Both can be purchased on Amazon. I would lean more towards the obdlink mx+ since I have used that.

Just note you will only be able to read the code, but not erase due to the security gateway module in 2018+

I use the OBDLink MX+ and have no issues reading codes so far.
I've also heard good things about Blue Driver but you can only use the Blue Drive app
The OBDLink MX+ works with all 3rd party software including AlfaOBD.

Yes, you can clear code with it, with the exception of permanent codes that clear over time when the issue is resolved.

My 2021 check engine light came on and the fault was due to a failed battery heater. The part took 4 weeks to get to the dealer. Our van was driveable, it just wouldn't go to pure electric mode unless it was at least 75F outside. It will still work in the hybrid mode.
I just go to AutoZone and use theirs.
