Hey all, I didn't see any similar issues after searching for a few minutes so I thought I'd post about what happened to me yesterday. I have a 2018 Pacifica Limited with about 23,000 trouble-free miles on it.

A few seconds after accelerating up to about 70mph on the freeway, a Start-Stop warning notification appeared on the dash, indicating that it had failed. This made sense, as the car had not been turning off at stoplights for the last several days. No big deal.

A few seconds later, however, the check engine light began to flash and a chime sounded, along with a general service engine notification on the display. Simultaneously, I noticed a vibration that felt like a blown out tire. When I let off the throttle, the vibration went away, but anytime I applied throttle again the vibration resumed. It was at this time that I noticed a rattling sound coming from the engine or transmission that, just like the vibration, disappeared whenever I let off the gas. I was still traveling 60+ mph, so the rattling was pretty loud for me to be able to hear it over the road noise.

As luck would have it, I was a near the dealership where I bought the car, so I exited the freeway and drove about half a mile to the dealership. Since the noise and vibration presented themselves whenever I did anything except coast, I nursed the car from the freeway to the dealership, stopping at one stoplight a few feet from my destination. While waiting for the light to turn green, the car shook noticeably, and the "box of marbles" rattling sound was also present, though not as loud as it had been. The chime and flashing light continued until I turned off the car at the dealership.

Through it all, the engine kept running, so I'm inclined to think it may have been a transmission issue, but who knows. Anyone experience anything similar?

Blinking MIL and rough running makes me think of a misfire... but who knows. Hopefully the fault codes will tell.

Hi Chrysler Cares team, Jasonn wasn't the original poster - I think he was asking me for an update.

Anyway - sorry for the delay! It was "merely" a failed fuel injector and it took about a week to get the part in and install it. The car runs normally now and there is no hint of the rattling sound I described in the initial post. My only guess was that the engine was firing so unevenly that it was kind of pinballing around between the normal transmission / halfshaft slop that all cars have, that the sound I heard was those components rattling back and forth. I assume that failed fuel injectors spray no fuel (vs spraying all the time), but I think that we can assume it was basically a 3.0L V-5 for awhile :)

I do want to take a moment to share some details of the overall experience. Firstly, cars break - no big deal. But that is where the sympathy ends.

This particular dealership in San Jose, CA (which isn't Normandin Chrysler), has the strongest "customer last" attitude I have encountered at any car dealership, a bar that is set quite low. The first disappointment came when I dropped the Pacifica off. I had explained that I needed help since I had a van full of child seats, a school field trip in two hours, and an inoperable minivan. After being told a handful of times that only one particular person can approve a loaner, about 2 hours after I had dropped off the car I was told by that special person that they do not provide loaners as a policy, and that I would have to call Chrysler. Obviously the field trip didn't happen, and I was literally left pile of seats and supplies on the service drive for another 45 minutes while a shuttle was sourced. This is easy stuff - explain to your customer that loaners don't happen (even if that's not true) no matter what instead of playing the shell game for two hours!

When I called Chrysler a few days later to get a loaner car, I was told the dealership can absolutely provide a loaner and that they should have arranged it. No matter, Chrysler would handle it, but they needed a vehicle diagnosis first. This is where the worst part of the experience begins: this dealership steadfastly refuses to communicate with anybody, Chrysler included. I resorted to physically driving over to the dealership every few days to get a status update (after 13 attempts from me, and several more from Chrysler Customer Care, to reach them by phone) after four or five days without an update. By this time I had picked up my own loaner car, and on my last visit, I made it clear that they needed to call Enterprise and pay for it themselves, which they suddenly had the capability to do.

The icing on the cake was that two of the three issues noted on the service write-up (a left power door that needed to be closed several times before remaining closed and a malfunctioning start / stop system) were not fixed. I texted the service adviser this information, and was asked when I'd like to bring the car in. Chrysler called two days ago to ask how things were going, and I shared the two issues noted above. They said they will try to get hold of the dealership to let me know what they can do. I'm not holding my breath.

My car experienced this exact thing Friday night while we’re on a road trip. Being far from home, and unable to get to our destination has been so frustrating! Thank you for following up with the fix.

Oh no! Hopefully your dealership can turn your car around in a reasonable amount of time. I can only imagine how frustrating that must be.

I read your other post - yours may not be 'the exact same thing' - this was a fuel injector, yours ignition...

I didn't see the other post but I bet losing ignition or fuel would feel almost exactly the same. The end result is that one of the cylinders isn't firing anymore which is pretty rough either way.

Here is the other thread:
Yes, engine would run lousy either way, but very different causes.

Thank you for letting me know this! I’m learning. The way he described his symptoms made it sound the exact same. But I get what you’re saying about the causes are different.

Your dealer is a cut above mine because they called you with an update! I can't imagine the repair taking very long but maybe they have to order a part.

I ended up dealing with Chrysler directly by calling their 800 number to sort out the rental situation. The dealership gave me some song and dance about not being able to handle it themselves, which looked pretty silly in hindsight because after I got Chrysler involved, the dealer paid for the rental car with their own credit card. Whatever. Don't hesitate to jump on the phone with Chrysler direct, rent another car yourself, and try not to miss (all of) your vacation!

Back i June I had an issue with my car. The check engine went on and I was going to take it into the shop when one morning it started shaking like it was going to stall. My husband took it in and they said it was the fuel injector. $800 later I thought all would be good. Now we are in October and I have the same issue happening. This time the check engine popped on and immediately starting dinging and blinking. I had my kids in the car and was so nervous. Took it to a sister shop of the first place (national chain who I will not call out) and again they said it the same fuel injector problem. WTH if wrong with this company? The car is 4 yrs old with 52,000 miles and should not be having this recurring issue. I don't have another $800 to sink, with the increase in prices for necessities. Husband is going to the class the dealer and get some answers (hopefully)
