I must say I am very unhappy. So short version I got a service start stop system message. I took the car to the dealership (Jeep Chrysler Dodge Fiat of Ontario, CA) who had it for a few days. For the record the service department is very courteous but given this is my second time driving the car off the lot after repair and having the same failure re-appear within 72 hours doesn't bode well) ... Anyways they performed a few recalls and 'repaired' the ESS (note the dust on the battery suggest neither battery nor terminals were never removed i.e. tested - good job www.jcofontario.com) The error code went away and I am guessing the battery was in charge as the ESS wasn't active. So on a 1,400 mile drive to texas we noticed a rotten egg odor followed by ESS failure. Quick google search suggested overcharged ESS battery. So I made an appointment when we got back and sure enough I woke up this morning and the primary battery was completely dead. My hope is I can hook it up to a charger (disconnected from the car of course) to see if i can get it started and running enough to make it to the dealership.

17 months and less that 15,000 miles. From what I see this ESS issue is common enough to suggest a design issue. As I said not happy is this where i say 'shoulda bought a sienna'. I'm sure customer service will chime in and not offer anything of tangible value.

ESS, dead Battery, and etc.

Chrysler will mess around with you as they have done with numerous other customers. The easy, albeit a bit expensive, solution is to have a high grade ESS and main battery installed by a qualified independent technician.

Chrysler will probably decide that both batteries are bad and replace them with identical OEM replacements. This guarantees that you will have the same problem again. A set of good batteries should get you 24-36 months of no battery issues.

It is important to get the battery issue sorted out because there is very little tolerance in the Pacifica for any battery weakness.

When you get the new batteries installed, I suggest that you pay the technician to ensure that all connections to/from the batteries, alternator, voltage regulator, and etc. are clean and tight. YMMV
