I need to install my EVSE an enclosed garage with hollow framed construction (studs 16" on center). Unfortunately, I need to install the EVSE right in between two studs (can't be helped unfortunately).

Can I hang a piece of OSB and mount my EVSE to it? Or should I use real plywood? Since it's inside, delamination shouldn't be a consideration, but I don't know if there is some other reason that OSB would not be the right choice for this situation.

Anyone here use OSB or plywood to mount an EVSE? Is there a preferable product for this application? Thanks!

Plywood for sure. It's much stronger, and better in every way except for cost, but you're only buying 1 piece, so that doesn't even matter.

Home Depot and Lowes both sell 2'x4' squares that would probably by perfect. Or buy a whole sheet and mount that to build some shelves or additional garage storage.

OSB would work just fine. Plywood would look a little better but it would mount to OSB and be plenty solid.

When looking at construction grade sheet goods, it's hard to find good plywood anymore. Half the crap is warped. OSB is far more consistent.

For ease of purchase, the 2x4 plywood pieces are great. You have to by OSB in full sheets, and the small plywood pieces are actually pretty rarely warped. They're mostly in much better condition than the larger sheets.

I ended up buying a 2'x4' sheet of 3/4" oak plywood, and I think the installation came out great. There's no way it would have worked in the long run mounting to that sheetrock, and I don't think the OSB would have looked as nice, nor held up as well. Thanks to all for the advice!

That looks great! Glad it worked out for you, and we appreciate the follow up.
