It looks like he was having surgery for sarcoma (cancer) in his shoulder three weeks ago when he suffered an embolism which caused irreversible brain damage and coma.

I can't post a link, but here's the URL: autoweek.com/article/car-news/marchionne-suffered-embolism-during-cancer-surgery

Yes, sad. I have been a fan of his for quite some time. He was a unique personality, and very unlike the typical CEO.

Mike Manley, a Brit, has been chosen to succeed Marchione. He is credited with bringing Jeep to it's present position of world wide sales, and the cash cow that holds FCA together. He will do well.

Autoweek seems to like Manley for the job.

Sad that he did not have a chance to enjoy retirement.

In any case, positive article about Manley at

An article I saw a few days ago that I can't locate seemed to say his #1 priority will be to straighten out the RAM truck upgrades. An older (May) article at
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2019-dodge-ram-1500-pickup-production-****-elon-musk/
outlines some of the problems.
