Who is not embarrased to admit the first car they bought new or just plain owned outright.

I will start.

(no laughing).

First car I bought 1986 Yugo. Dealer demo. It had almost 7K miles on it..

Totaled it 5 months after I bought it.. ran into a shopping cart in the mall..

Seriously totaled it in head on collision (it's a miracle I am still here). I had seat belt pain across my chest for a month... I walked away.

...it must have been a shopping cart from Lowes or Home Depot. They are rather sturdy...:|

Wow!, how fast was that shopping cart going?

My first car was a 1978 Plymouth Sapporo (purchased new) with the 2.6 liter engine and 5spd. Great car. Sapporo was built by Mitsubishi and imported by Plymouth.

I've never been a first owner of a car until the Pacifica Hybrid, motorcycles are a different story.

But my first car was a 1979 Honda Civic, then a 1981 280ZX turbo with a 1982 toyota Shortbed pickup..

I had the knack for fixing vehicles so it was never worth my while to own new.

New 1966 Chevy Nova two door sport coupe. It had 194 cu. in. six and PowerGlide. No options but a radio. It did have the triangular fly windows that I really loved but you haven't seen for years. Chicago winters ate it up.

My first car was a 1966 Porsche 912 5 speed I bought in 1969.
I had just gotten back from Vietnam and spent nearly all my combat pay on it.
Drove it cross-country NY to Calif - I left NY at daybreak, by sundown I was in St Louis, Missouri. Granted, it was summer (long days),
but snapped the crankshaft 6 miles West of Gallup, New Mexico (I was doing 115 at the time).
Had it towed East to Albuquerque and had engine rebuilt, then drove it to Marine Corp base 29 Palms, Calif.
West of the Mississippi I got a ticket in nearly every state - that I had my Marine uniform hanging in the back meant nothing - it was all about revenue.
In the cop's defense, they couldn't help themselves - a red Porsche with NY plates in Oklahoma made them drool. (lot of droolers there).
After rebuild I drove it to Los Angeles to see a 'Nam buddy, and it was stolen.
All my cars have been downhill since that first one.

1st car was a 1955 Chevrolet convertible, 265 cu.inch V8, dual exhaust. Pretty sure I paid less than $300. Bought in 1963.
Sure wish I still had that car today.

I was living back in the UK and I was 17 years old (legal age for driving there). my first car was a 1974 Ford Capri. It had a 2.0 V4 engine and the back of that thing would just slide out at every opportunity !!...At that time it was considered a pretty "fast" car for a new driver, most of my buddies were driving around in cars with 1100 cc engines !

My first car I bought was an 1986 VW golf. Bought it for $75 and put a $25 water pump on it. Drove it 1000 miles and the transmission locked up in 4th. Drove it to the junk yard stuck in 4th,roasting the clutch at every stop sign to get it going. Miss that car.

The Pachy coming in December will be my first brand new vehicle I've ever purchased. This one cost a ton more than the VW. Lol

First Car 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 383 4-Speed in 1976 when I was 15.
My buddy inherited his dad's 69 road runner when he was 16. His dad never got to run it at the track sadly. 500 CI, indy heads, tubbed with huge slicks, 12pt cage, ran 10.8 in the quarter before being tuned on a dyno. My first experience of real speed was in that car 18 years ago. My buddy still has it.

Great fun!

Fiancé/wife bought a Saturn SL2 sedan their first model year, I got a hand me down Toyota Tercel hatchbatch manual transmission, from my sister in law as a family graduation gift, 8 years old, had lots of miles on it but I put many more. Had lots of life in it and got great mileage, but It got totaled when Hurricane Fran dropped a tree on the roof, popped all four tires shattered all glass, lost a nice stroller in the trunk and car seat too. First purchase we made together, to replace the Tercel, was a 1996 Ford Windstar, that was a nice one but we had to replace the engine and transmission. This had the big heavy seats that you had to remove, and no driver side sliding door, the Dodge Caravan was the leading minivan and winner of the cup holder war back then, the Ford had better crash rating and acceleration, but more of a no-frills kind of minivan at the time. It had a cassette deck!

My first car was a 1968 Austin America, purchased new for $1,800. It had a transverse mounted engine with front wheel drive, which was quite unusual for US cars at the time. But not unusual for the UK where these "minis" were very popular. I think almost all of my cars since then have had transverse engines with front wheel drive, including the PacHy.

In 1960, while in college, I obtained a 1949 hand-me-down Plymouth 4-door, dark green, mouse fuzz gray seats, 3-on-a-tree shifter*, smooth as silk in-line six, AM radio, very good heater, leaky radiator, pine scent thingy hanging from mirror to disguise unknown odor, and a broken necker's knob*.

Once I fixed the radiator, it was absolutely trouble free. Maintenance was an easy oil change and tune-ups (which consisted of changing the points*, plugs, condenser*, tickling the carburetor*, and using my buddy's strobe timing light* to set the timing.)

*If you're younger than me (and most of you are!), ask if you need these items explained. :)

A 1956 Super 88 Olds back in 1965.

Oldsmobile had three models -- 88, Super 88 and 98. The 98 had a longer body (mostly trunk as I remember) and a bigger engine. The Super 88 was an 88 with the bigger 98 engine so it was the fastest. Three of us in the fraternity had the complete set between us -- 88, Super 88 and 98. My Super 88 had almost all the options except A/C (even tinted windows.)

Coolest thing was the (AM) radio that had a motorized tuner that could be driven across the stations "hands free" by a foot switch on the floor next to the high beam button....... Used to freak out the girls by pointing at the radio and having it move with that floor button!
