Picked up our limited on Saturday. Getting to the point where we need to refuel for the first time. Went to go open the fuel filler door. There was no way to "click" the door so I looked for a door release button. None. Eventually I used a non-marring interior pry bar wrapper in felt and the door opens with no resistance. Looking inside there appears to be a piece missing or something. WTF.

Can someone post of picture of what the door and latch is supposed to look like so I can figure out if there's a piece missing?

Hi tdimarzio,

I’ve added a screenshot from page 418 of your Owner’s Manual below. Did you try pushing on the center-rear edge (3 o’clock position) of the fuel filler door to get it to open? If it wouldn’t open this way we would recommend visiting your local dealership for further diagnosis. I’d be happy to follow up with them for you if needed, just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

Hi Andrea. Yes, I did see that in my owner's manual. There is no give pressing anywhere, including the 3 oclock position. From what I can tell from comparing the picture I took to pictures on the internet, it looks like I am missing a piece. Call it a plunger that inserts into the locking mechanism. There's nothing there on mine. As a result, the fuel door does not sit flush with the body of the vehicle. Instead it is recessed a little. Not immediately obvious at first, but once you see it you can't unsee it.

Yes, you appear to be missing the spring-loaded plunger. You'll likely have to make an appointment with your dealer to have it fixed.

Thanks. I was thinking the same. I've made an appointment for tomorrow morning at the dealership. It had to go in anyway because (lucky me) the vehicle was transferred from NJ where they required front license plates. In PA we don't use them, so now I've got two nasty screw holes in the front bumper

I'm hoping they do a good job with that. If the bumper gets fixed nice and they have the spring-loader plunger for the gas fill lid, then I should be in good shape by the end of the day tomorrow! Fingers crossed.

Not sure your are missing something as opposed to something broke. They put in some fuel before it leaves.

Not only waterproof but I think the entire fuel system including the gas tank has to (by law) be gas vapor sealed except for a single point where it vents through a charcoal canister to atmosphere. Every time you drive the van and shut off your engine it tests the system for pressure leaks.

Could this be the issue? Appears missing on the door or broken in the female section. Snapped off maybe?

Thanks for the picture.

Yes, but I think the significant difference is the black, spring-loaded plunger connected to the door. It's completely missing on mine.
The vehicle is in for service now.
I'll post an after picture once I get the vehicle back.

Yes, I think that will fix your issue.

Also, the hole where the gas station fuel filler handle inserts looks like a total redesign from mine. Must be a reason for that. If you think to would you ask the service manager what and why this changed and if there is a Technical Service Bulletin for it? No biggie if you forget. I'm just curious if there's something I need to be aware of with mine.

Thanks

Sorry, I did not get a chance to ask a service adviser about that. Yes, it is clear that the filler insert has been redesigned. The Pacifica they had on the showroom floor has a filler insert that probably looks like yours, where you can see the aluminum flap, as opposed to mine which is all black.

I know that mine is the latest production as my Pacifica came with ESS (for better or worse).

Here's the picture after they added the spring-loaded plunger.

I like that it has the extra flap now. That's why I asked if the fuel door sealed the compartment, because it looked like the fuel filler was totally exposed!

Honda's system for comparison.

How much did they charge you for this?

I have a vacuum leak. Have taken it twice to the dealer. First time they said it needed a software update a couple weeks after I purchased it. Second time they wanted to charge $350 for diagnostic service fee. Just bought the car used 7 weeks ago. Had written on sales contract 3 month bumper to bumper warranty and bought a platinum extended service agreement. Dealer says extended service agreement doesn't cover diagnostic fees. I'm so irritated with this lemon.
It is a 2018 limited with 42K miles. Bought it and serviced from Boardwalk Chrysler in bay area. :(
